Should I be on ADD medication?!

Question: Should I be on ADD medication.?
Today... I poured the chocolate syrup in the wrong container.
Then... they told me it was the wrong one, and thit I had done it the other time.
So.... I tried to pick it up....
And it was still plugged in and fell down everywhere.
Then.... I picked it up again, and someone in the head with it.

I think I just don't care enough to pay attention. I mean the tasks are mind numbingly dull. Thankfully I only have 5 days left.

Do I just hate my job, or could this have happened to anyone.?Health Question & Answer

From your initial description I wouldn't think that you have ADD, but rather that you were having a bit of a klutzy streak. I have them all the time. Paradoxically, I find it much harder to concentrate on mind-numbingly simplistic tasks than on more challenging ones because I'm so bored my mind wanders. From everything that I've read of yours so far, you sound like an adventuresome, inquisitive person, and so being in an environment that utterly lacks any mental stimulation probably isn't healthy for your overall well-being. If you have to keep the job, then just do your best to stay focused while you are there.

After reading the additional details I'm not as sure about your ADD; it's impossible for anyone to definitely tell you rather you do from questions on Yahoo Answers. You are right that it is a label often slapped on kids who don't actually have it, though. My preschool thought I had ADHD because I was constantly roaming around the classroom and not paying attention, but my pediatrician told my parents he thought it was simply caused by boredom and that they should have my IQ tested. The results prompted them to have me skip over the last year of preschool and start kindergarten at a school for gifted kids where my signs of ADHD promptly disappeared. If you think you may have ADD and could benefit from medication, talk to your doctor. But I would first try exercising more, doing mind-stimulating tasks like crosswords puzzles, eating healthily and finding another job and see if you aren't happier and feeling more focused.

Best of luck!

It's easy to go into "auto pilot" mode when we are doing arduous tasks. & that's quite normal. Don't try to make yourself feel 100% attentive to whatever your doing just know that life has many tasks that feel pointless and dull like you say, but these all must be done mindfully or we will suffer consequences. Practice being calmly mindfully aware of the present moment and it will sooner or later become like an exercise, and your tolerance for the current moment will only grow stronger. No meds !!!!!!! :)Health Question & Answer

Probably could have happened to anyone.

If you really don't care, then ADD meds won't help you. They might even make you feel sick.

You could try over the counter, non-prescription ADD meds. Most are stimulants, and help anyone concentrate, if that's what you need to do. You can get caffeine in pill form. You can get it in liquid form from a machine, hot or cold, with sugar, or without. You can even get it in donuts. There are side effects. It's addictive. It can cause insomnia, nervous twitters, calcium loss and arthritis. You can get it without a prescription because it's generally considered as safe. No randomized long term trials. It's just that people have been consuming it for ages.Health Question & Answer
