Answers:
Lobotomies are not exactly the ideal way to effect real change in the human mind. The process is very invasive and permanent. When lobotomies were previously performed, they were usually without the consent of the patient. While it has been many years since this was the case, a lot of people have an immediate negative reaction.

Limited lobotomies may actually be beneficial in certain rare situations. Brain surgery is completely revolutionized and can be done in a much less invasive manner. As we learn more about the brain, we are also learning more about how certain parts contribute to unwanted behavior. So, one should never limit the possibilities that science can provide in helping us.

Another good example is ECT-electroshock therapy. Many, who have no idea how the process works, feel that this is some dark-ages type treatment. However, adaptations to the process actually mean that ECT can have some very positive outcomes in depression or anxiety cases. Of course, all this is based on the fact that the treatment form is something with which the patient has had a chance to consent to. It cannot, in any form, be forced upon a patient.Health Question & Answer
