Is it possible for me to ever get off these meds?!

Question: Is it possible for me to ever get off these meds.?
I've been taking the anti psychotic risperdal for two years now and I've been taking wellbutrin for about 1.5 years. I haven't had a psychotic episode for almost a year until two weeks ago when I started getting hallucinations and who knows what else which has lasted since then with symptoms coming and going. I just got my risperdal dosage raised from 3mg to 4.5mg. I was hoping to get off this anti psychotic, but it seems that I may never get off of it now. I am prepared to live with medication for the rest of my life and I just want to know if anyone with psychotic depression/schizoaffective has ever gotten off their meds after taking them for a certain length of time.?

I cannot work with these symptoms I'm having and I'm at a loss as to what to do now. I just seen my psych last week and it will be another six weeks before I see him again.Health Question & Answer

I do not have the same disorder that you do but before I was correctly diagnosed I was on the same meds you are now. If you have been diagnosed correctly then no, I do not believe you will ever be off your meds, not if your smart. I have been manic-bipolar and on 900 mg of lithium per day for 13 years now. Recently I have been depressed and also showing signs of mania. Most I could afford was to see a counselor through work who told me she thought I needed to be on an additional medication plus the lithium as meds were different now than years ago. I think you should consult another psych. as it couldn't hurt because if you don't take care of YOU than how are you going to take care of anything else.? AAAHHH..to feel normal again and not just trying to get through another day! Good luckHealth Question & Answer

The pastor at my church has talked about schizophrenics sometimes being cured by prayer.

I'm a counselor. One client--with serious delusions--was virtually cured through prayer. A staff pastor helped.

I'd check out www.healingrooms.com There is a local healing room near you where people can pray for you.

I'd also suggest you check out the website below.Health Question & Answer

I have heard that in time these conditions can burn themselves out. I think
some medications cause symptoms that were not there in the first place. Stopping any psychoactive drug is a long drawn out process which can be uncomfortable.Health Question & Answer
