I'm weird.. And i don't like it?!

Question: I'm weird.. And i don't like it.?
I know i'm weird. And I don't wanna be. Like I do weird things... I check myself [My whole body] to see if anythings on me... Then I keep checking. I'm getting better at not keep checking.. But it's annoying ! I've never done this before. :/ And if I'm painting my nails I over do it and my nails look like crap because I keep thinking I missed a spot. I also always think my hairs messed up.. When it's not. If i'm at someones house I have to keep going in the bathroom and looking at myself to see if I look okay. My half brother called me dumb. I'm trying to overcome this weirdness.. Cause I hate it. :/ what can I do.?

I also have to check doors like 2 or 3 times before I actually leave... Or I always worry if the house catches on fire and i'm home alone. I worry to much also. But I get that from my dad. I'm also paranoid...Health Question & Answer

It is regular to be like this. I think the best way to handle this is to talk to your mom or guardian.Health Question & Answer

You may be suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

This is where you feel a need to keep redoing things over and over again until they are perfect, or are too health conscious, ei: Washing your hands constantly.

You should probablly see a doctor, you can be helped.

These are classic symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety. With OCD people have obsessive thoughts i.e. does my hair look o.k..? This causes great anxiety where you then feel compulsed to act i.e. check in the mirror. It can be a never ending cycle, for you are never truly relieved. Even if you check in the mirror a hundred times it will still not satisfy or put an end to the obsession, in fact it does the opposite and just feeds into it, giving it more power. Excessive worrying works in a very similar manner and is a direct result of anxiety. You can by yourself begin to retrain your mind by essentially facing your own fears or anxieties, the technical term for this form of treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Think to yourself what honestly would be the big deal if a hair was out of place.? Is everyone going to notice, are they going to tell everyone they know.? Is your hair going to be put on the cover of people magazine.?, No! When you find yourself thinking about things as this, you have to refrain yourself from taking the next step and looking in the mirror. You will at first experience a lot of anxiety, but with each time you do not look into the mirror, or feed into the obsession, your anxiety will decrease. You should talk with your doctor and make an appointment with a therapist to help you decrease and relieve your anxiety and obsessive thinking. There are many common medications that will treat both, and a therapist can help you to find the root of your anxiety ways to work through it. There are many many people who have very similar situations, so do not think that you are weird - you're quite normal. Good Luck to you.Health Question & Answer

From what you're describing you may have OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder). Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a mental disorder most commonly characterized by intrusive, repetitive thoughts resulting in compulsive behaviors and mental acts that the person feels driven to perform. If not preformed or if preformed incorrectly, the person might suffer extreme anxiety. Actions like repetitive hand washing, checking doors to make sure they're locked are hallmarks of OCD.

It is not a character flaw and is treatable. I suggest you talk to your parents about seeing a therapist.

The only reason I would suggest maybe you see treatment is because these behavior patterns bother you. There is nothing wrong with that if it doesn't upset you, if it does though.

Sounds like OCD. You should talk to someone though because a lot of symptoms can stem from broader issues, or multiple issues... which would determine the best method for helping you change these patterns. The last thing you want is to pick a method that causes some other sort of problem for you.

I would suggest seeing if your insurance will cover mental and behavioral health, then see if someone will administer the MMPI exam to you. It's designed in such a way that if you answer the questions honestly, your potential or susceptibility to certain conditions will show up in the results, and you can avoid problems with treatment methods if you seek it.Health Question & Answer
