I have social anxiety and find it hard to concentrate in public. Being around people makes me feel hot, my heart rate goes insane, i cant breath, i shake etc. And i have found that the best way to control myself is to carry a paperclip and play with it when im out and about. It distracts me from the people around me.

also, i used to cut and found that a good alternative to my cutting addiction was to hold ice in my hand because the cold hurt in my hand but i was not actually harming myself.Health Question & Answer

I try to use the skills I learned through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. And if I can not do that at that time I step back for awhile and not think of it until I am calm enough to deal with it. Either that or I pull my hair alot more then usual. Sometimes it is just really hard to do the CBT thing and I need to do things like go for a walk and breathing exercises. Oh and a really good one is the tense and release technique where you tense all the muscles in your body for 5 seconds and then release you do that a few times and it is like your mind and body just relaxes. It feels great. Journaling is another good one. You write it all down get it on paper and out of your head. Then later you can read it and see what happend, your trigger, and how you can deal with it again if it comes up. This also helps to make you more mindful of what is going on around you and how react to the stressor. Being mindful is a really big factor in CBT if you haven't gone through it you should at least once.Health Question & Answer

I laugh, I know this sounds crazy, but yea I have had some crazy sh-- happen to me in my life, so either I can laugh or cry...so I laugh....I sometimes think people think I am nuts cuz I tend to laugh when people around me are losing it or if someone is being rediculious, I can see the comical side of the situation, and I laugh....or when something bad is happening I will try and look at it with no judgment.....and ask myself is this really going to afffect my life...probably not...so carry on I tell myself.Health Question & Answer
