Dexedrine? Adhd? medicine? HELP!?!

Question: Dexedrine.? Adhd.? medicine.? HELP!.?
I take dexedrine to help me study once in a blue moon, but i'm taking a liking to it. It really helps with my anxiety, depression and keeps me focused on things in my life that I should be focused on. Im in university right now and find that I often can't bring myself to do anything since im so lethargic and lazy and get distracted by the little, unnecessary things in my life that frustrate me. Does any one take these regularily or does anyone know if it sounds like it could help me.? I read somewhere that dexies are dangerous since it is technically speed. Dexedrine is for ADHD by the way. But i feel it really stabilizes my mood and keeps me focused on the important things. I'm actually much more rational, strong and levelheaded when im on them rather then the emotional, depressed paranoid mess i usually am.Health Question & Answer

Do you also experience an increase in self confidence, have a lot of energy, seem to be witty and social, etc. etc. when you take this medication.? If so, then I doubt you have ADHD; if you did, the medication would have a completely different effect on you. You may think that Dexedrine helps to stabilize your mood but it doesn't. It might, however, make you FEEL BETTER when you take it. If in fact some of your problems with concentration were actually caused by depression and anxiety (versus ADHD) then the drug will affect you like a stimulant would, because that is, after all, what it is. When I say stimulant -- think cocaine in a pill, if you take enough. I don't think Dexedrine is time released, so you're getting the full dose of medication all at once. The result would be similar to someone doing a couple of lines of cocaine.

Because Dexedrine is a short acting drug, the effects probably last about five hours, give or take. You might start to feel sluggish when the drug wears off. Then you might take another one. Except that you'll notice you need more and more to have the same effect. Dexedrine, like all CNS stimulants, is a Class II drug, meaning that it's more highly controlled than other prescription medications. (For example, you cannot get refills on Dexedrine. Instead, you have to have a new prescription every time). Why is it a Class II.? Because it can be very habit forming (i.e., addicting).

This is just a theory. If you're anxious, in all actuality Dexedrine will probably end up making that worse. If you're paranoid, Dexedrine will DEFINITELY make that worse. If you're depressed and anxious what you need is an antidepressant (probably coupled with psychotherapy, at least to determine if you could benefit from it). If your problem is depression, an antidepressant could help you concentrate better, should improve your motivation, and should increase your overall energy level.

My advice would be to go to a mental health provider (you might need a referral) and get an assessment. You need a correct diagnosis in order to get good treatment.Health Question & Answer
