I feel oddly guilty about wanting a chihuahua, how weird is that?!

Question: I feel oddly guilty about wanting a chihuahua, how weird is that.?
I desperately want a dog and hopefully in the next few months I will be in a position where I can have one. I mean that I will be working part time so wont have to leave it on its own all day but I do still live in a small flat so need a small dog.
For some reason I feel bad about wanting a chihuahua, maybe because people have them as a fashion accessory but I know I genuinely want a nice pet to look after so I don't know what's making me think that.
I'm a 28 year old woman but for some reason I'm thinking like a teenager and I don't know what's wrong with me!!
Has anyone else had a situation where they've found themselves feeling in a way that is totally unlike you.?Health Question & Answer

All this about Chihuahua's being frail and always at the vets is not true. Yes maybe if you get a "teacup" Chihuahua. But we have a Chihuahua, 6 years old and he has hardly been to the vets in his life. In fact, the only time he goes is for routine worming, etc! Any breed of dog can develop problems so there's no point thinking "what ifs" and not getting the dog that you really want.

You seem to want one for the right reasons and you will be able to offer him/her lots of time so I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get one. xxHealth Question & Answer

A chihuahua will make just as valid a pet dog as any other.
They can still walk, they can still run, and will keep you company.
You have a sensible idea. Don't feel guilty.
I prefer larger dogs, but I live in 3 bed semi, right next to the hills.
Just because Paris Hilton has spoiled it for the world, doesn't mean you can't get your mini pet.
You go and get one and enjoy your little dog.Health Question & Answer

You have not taken a decision. Rabbit or chihuahua.? Your age has nothing to do with pets. You feel younger - that is really great! Rabbits do not need lawns in the kitchen, they need carrots and greens and vegetables. You say,"I know I genuinely want a nice pet to look after." Now go ahead, irrespective of what others think,do and dream.Health Question & Answer

It their size and frailty that concerns me. My daughter who is a doctor wants one as well and I have a feeling of trepidation for I know who will be asked to take it for walkies. They are also well know as being expensive dogs to keep in top condition for the vets' bills are very high.Health Question & Answer

You should get a rabbit. Rabbits naturally wake up in the morning at breakfast time, have a good snooze in the afternoon and wake up around teatime, so they're ideal if you work full time.
They're also really cute!Health Question & Answer

You don't need one!!! A pet as a fashion accessory-that's not right!!!Health Question & Answer

i wouldnt feel guilty at all!small dogs make for great pets.my dog at present is barking at the work man in next doors house and he is no bigger than a cat but im sure hes got a mean bite lol.he makes a great companion and i love having him with me when my lil girl is at school and my partner is at work.i think you should get one when the time is right and dont be embarrassed!you dont have to carry the thing round in a bag like paris hilton (i think that is cruel and degrading to dogs - they have legs!).my partner gets hassle when he walks our dog as people think its a fashion accessorie that i wanted but i wanted a small one for our daughter!i even buy him jumpers (i had a guilt trip the first time i did it!) but he seems to love them and he looks cute!Health Question & Answer
