Hi Lucky Star. Anti-depressants will not erase past memories. They are only prescribed to alleviate your mood now. However most dont seem to be very good. It is best that you have some sort of counselling in conjunction with your medication. I am on Citrolopam for my depression but i am also seeing a counsellor as well as a psychiatrist which seem to help me a lot.
Trying to ignore the past will only have affect your future. As painful as it might be, confronting what has went on in this past will help you to get a little bit of closure and hopefully give you the strength to face your future with a better frame of mind.
talk to your doctor about counselling and if he trys to fob you off by saying you dont need it, keep on at them about because it seems that you do need help with dealing with your past.
I hope you get the treatment you need and deserve, Lucky Star.

Good luck

You are under a high self-induced stress that leads to depression

Try to have positive reactions to stress

Proper diet, exercising, yoga, meditating, massage therapy, aromatherapy, talking your problems out with a therapist or friend and so on.

You can choose to react to stress in a negative way or in a positive way, it is all up to you. This is the only choice that you have when it comes to most stress.

Think about a stressful situation that you have in your life at the moment. Think carefully about the stress. Write it on a piece of paper.

Is this stress something that you can control.? Is it something that you can do without.? If the stress is something that you can eliminate from your life, why are you not ridding yourself of this stress.?

If the stress is something that you cannot control, how are you reacting to the stress.? Are your reactions negative or positive.?

By choosing to react to your stress in a positive manner, you can not only control your stress, but you will end up eliminating the stress.

Choose to react to your stress in a positive manner instead of in a negative way and you will achieve positive results. Choose to react in a negative manner and you will begin down the route of self destruction.Health Question & Answer

I would use St John's Wort instead of conventional anti depressants, recent research favours this. There are no tablets to block out bad memories, however St John's Wort will help you to cope with your fears. Have you thought about going to a Hypnotist.?Health Question & Answer
