Is there any good evidence to support homosexuality being a disorder?!

Question: Is there any good evidence to support homosexuality being a disorder.?
Really I would like to know, not trying to be mean. from what i have read and seen in my life, it has to be something like a genetic deformity.

these things are like that it is not a choice, and I know the argument there about "you are like me born liking what you like what makes it wrong.?" I am not a religious nutjob, just see same sex relationships as something of a good time but offers nothing to the progression as a species.

and few other species in the world share our tendencies towards sexuallity, so it makes me think that it may not be the "natural" way, and is the same way as getting cancer or being born with your heart outside your chest is not "natural".

what i am asking is does anyone know a good study to shows one way or another.Health Question & Answer

not good to get hung up on the word "natural" - what isn't in the end.?

In inarticulate terms - some people (I think most or maybe all.?) are born with it - it's an innate thing; - others might develop it due to some adverse environmental situation (really not sure if there is much of this about but could be)
In either case - as long as the person is happy with it and no one else is being harmed (not talking about maladjusted parents/ right wing loonys etc) then that's all fine.

Some of the scientific backing for the theory that is is biological goes along the lines of tracing the child's development in the womb, at some stage generally a process occurs where the child will have their attraction for a mate directed toward the opposite sex. This sometimes fails in the case of male children and their attraction ffor a mate is still directed to the male sex. Unfortunately I cannot recall the magazine I read this in, shame as it was rather clearly explained with evidence cited.

There's loads of stuff out there. Check out stuff that cites hard evidence - might be difficult to sort out in some cases for some. Be wary of so called evidence that does not stack up on rigorous examintation - in the interests of keeping it a level playing field and considereing all's points of view I am loathe to mention labels...But some right wing church groups are notorious for bogus logic and this topic...Happy wading.Health Question & Answer

homosexuality is a choice. people are not born gay, but they choose to be gay. if people were born gay, we would be able to tell ahead of time if that person was going to be gay or not. for example, if a mother drinks alcohol during a pregnancy, the chances of that baby developing problems from the alcohol are pretty high( theres a name for it, but i dont remember). all that homosexuality brings to this world is perverted people, diseases, and tolerance. gay people are just trying to justify what they do by saying they were born gayHealth Question & Answer

There have been studies done that proclaim there are difference in the brain make-up of homosexuals. It is not a choice. I wish I could cite this study but I cannot recall any of the major details where it was done or who by. I would not call is a disorder, but more of a genetic differentiation.Health Question & Answer

Wow. Maybe you should live in Iran... No wait, they're religious nut jobs just like the right-wing Christians in our country.

It's not a disorder. It's the way we're born and that's that. There are many different ideas to why homosexuality exists.

Maybe it's Mother Nature's way of slowing down the overwhelming population boom...Health Question & Answer

sexual preference is an individuals right and you are what you are as simple as that.
you can't choose who you are attracted to it is just a connection you make.
being homosexual does not mean you have a genetic derformity
who has the right to say if it is right or wrong.?Health Question & Answer

it isn't a genetic deformity. homosexuals can't reproduce through intercourse (they can, however with artificial insemination, but the genetics are only from one parent). heterosexual couples have children and sometimes they're gay. that's just how they are.Health Question & Answer

To my knowledge, it has never actually been proven but there is a theory about too much estrogen in the womb resulting in gay men.? Not 100% on that one

There has been a study done on female sharks in a confined tank with no male species. Over a period of time the female sharks started to become pregnant in theory this could be consider either a homosexuality relationship or evolution of the species.

Your view on sexuality is repressed, because as a species the progression comes from environment. My example is simple, the first life on our planet was an Amoeba a single cell living organism, not gender specific, which evolved from water to land.

Look up Birth Anatomy and you will see that conception is not gender specific either and that even after you are born humans carry both male and female traits.Health Question & Answer

This is an interesting question. I've wondered it myself, if I understand you correctly, I think what you are asking is there some actual like structural difference in the brain or something like that that is clearly different between heterosexuals and homosexuals.

As far as I know, no. There are no structural differences that research has found. I have heard that there is some speculation as to whether it could be due to some kind of maternal hormonal imbalance when the baby is still in the womb, some mutation of the genes that causes hetero/homosexuals to have different inclinations, or even a fetus' sensitivity or lack of it to its mother's hormone fluctuations.

Hope that helps. (Even though it doesn't, really . . . )Health Question & Answer

If you looking for a study I cannot provide that. I can say that I believe homosexuality is not something that is passed down generation to generation, so no its not genetic. I'm not sure if you knew this or not, but homosexuality is not a knew thing. It has been around for centuries. In fact, In ancient Sparta the older warriors would have sex with the young boys in training. It was considered the norm. Same in ancient Rome. Men having sex with boys/men was considered natural, however, women having sex with women was considered vulgar and unnatural. Look how the times have changed. I understand how you would think of being in a same sex relationship as only being pleasurable sexually and not a source of reproduction or creating a society. Sure, the sex can be fun (whether its between two girls, two guys or one of each) but it can be more than that. It's being in a relationship with someone you love, it's enjoying the life you have as you want to enjoy it, and lets face it, do we really need more people in this world.? Adoption and artificial insemination are options for same sex couples who choose to become parents. As far as animals not participating in same sex relations, I can tell you that cats and dogs definitely do!Health Question & Answer

Well I do not keep tabs on the latest scientific studies pertaining to homosexuality but let us look back on the past for a new perspective. A great civilization in fact shall help us understand the matter, with the help of Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuali...

The ancient Greeks did not conceive of sexual orientation as a social identifier, as Western societies have done for the past century. Greek society did not distinguish sexual desire or behavior by the gender of the participants, but by the extent to which such desire or behavior conformed to social norms. These norms were based on gender, age and social status.[5] There is little extant source material on how females viewed sexual activity. There are two main views of male sexual activity in ancient Greek society. Some scholars, such as Kenneth Dover and David Halperin, claim that it was highly polarized into "active" and "passive" partners, penetrator and penetrated, an active/passive polarization held to be associated with dominant and submissive social roles: the active (penetrative) role was associated with masculinity, higher social status, and adulthood, while the passive role was associated with femininity, lower social status, and youth.[5] In this view, any sexual activities in which a male penetrated a social inferior was regarded as normal; "social inferiors" could include women, male youths, foreigners, prostitutes, or slaves; and being penetrated, especially by a social inferior, was considered potentially shameful.[5]Health Question & Answer
