Whats wrong with me? a sleepless night has brought me to this...?!

Question: Whats wrong with me.? a sleepless night has brought me to this....?
For most of my life ive felt worthless, had no self esteem, no confidence and generally never seen a point to me being around. This started just before puberty so i just assumed it was teenage blues, but as i get older i cant help but notice myself getting worse and worse. I cant stick to anything, don't see the point of anything really.

Ive had a couple of boyfriends before but they dont last and i haven't had one for about a year and a half now. i've had a few jobs but just end up getting bored of them or scared of doing them (the last job i had lasted a week before i just gave up) I fell out with my best friend of 10 years recently and don't really care about making up again. I dont really have any interest in doing anything or seeing anyone. I can't make any decisions for myself, i just let my friends run my life for me.

I'm now almost 21 and studying at university, but to be honest it takes all my strength just to turn up to lessons, and half the time i don't turn up at all. I barely pass through my essays as i always leave them to the last minute cos i just cant motivate myself to do them. Nights out my friends have to drag me out the house cos i just don't have any motivation or confidence to do anything. One night i put on my outfit to go out, looked in the mirror and just burst out crying at how disgusting i thought i looked, then locked myself in my room and didn't go out again for some time till i'd feel better.

I hate feeling like this all the time and letting my friends down. What can i do.? i just can't seem to figure anything out, i just feel like i'm being lazy, some stupid burden on everyone around me that they just have to "deal with"

Reading this back i just know some of the comments that are going to come back.

Please help me...Health Question & Answer

Depression makes people feel like they are lazy, and that that is how they are perceived by others. Unfortunately, this can be the way that people look at it, but only because they don't understand the facts.

I can give you all the advice in the world, but I know from past experience that, while it might make you feel better momentarily, and is true, this is not a longterm cure, as as soon as one of your particularly 'down' moods return, all the positivity will disappear again.

I know many people will sa ths to you, but it's really true. You should speak to your doctor.
But don't just let him give you a pot of pills and send you on your way, as they really should be a last resort and you could become dependant on thm, leading to more problems in the future. While they may seem lie a quick fix, the're not.
Hopefully your doctor will refer you to a therapist. Don't make the mistake of thinking that this means he thinks you're crazy, or that it won't help. You might think that you have tried talking before and that it didn't work, but these people really know what they're doing.
The biggest thing you can do for yourself is to want to break the cycle that you are in, and the fact that you have written this question at all shows that you do. Now you just need to take action - the sooner you do, the sooner you will begin to feel better, and that you have some kind of control over your life.
Good luck, I really hope you feel better soonHealth Question & Answer

Kelly L is absolutely right. Sounds like you're suffering from depression. You should see a doctor right away. It maybe even compounded by physical problems. For example, thyroid diseases can cause hormonal imbalances, kidney disease can make you feel lethargic and lazy. Go get yourself physically and mentally checked out. The important thing to remember, you are not alone by any means. This happens to millions of people of all races, ages and genders. The important thing is to do something about it. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Many of us feel the same way, on and off. My suggestion is to help somebody else. This will take your mind off yourself. Helping other people who are in an even worse situation gives a greater perspective. In the end, life is about feeling more love, and less fear.
I'm in a happier state of mind since I decided to follow this path more than two years ago.Health Question & Answer

You sound like you suffer from depression. Do you have days where you feel like you cant do anything because you have so much on your mind.?

If i where you i would go see a councillar they will help make sense of your life and work out why you have low self esteem, confidence etc.

There will be an underlying reason for this something you might not even consciously know about yourself.

Life can be beautiful but it can also be a living hell it all depends on your mind. The thoughts you get and the actions to those thoughts.

I dont know if anyones ever said this but you should be very proud of yourself for being so strong sticking uni and not letting this beat you.

Hang in there and get the support you need and trust me you will start to see a change as they say what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.Health Question & Answer
