Actually BPD basically means that the person is self centered and just plain difficult. It's not really a disorder so much as it is a diagnosis that gives them an excuse to be self centered, rigid and difficult to deal with. If she can't control her behaviour it's because she's a spoiled brat - doesn't matter what her personal history is. She chooses to act that way and now some doctor telling her she has BPD has given her the excuse to act like a selfish little child for the rest of her life. Move on.

If you do what the person above me suggested, you're basically enabling her to continue to be a selfish ***** by being nice to her even though she's being stupid/rude/mean etc. Don't fall for that stupid crap - people do have control over their behaviour and they have to learn that they can't just pull the "personality disorder" card whenever they act like the spoiled, selfish bitches that they are.Health Question & Answer

I can answer this question first hand. I have been in relationships and have BPD. Okay, the thing is, having a relationship with someone who has BPD is very rocky. They have very varying moods. A person with BPD sees things in black and white and will either LOVE you or absolutely HATE you, the hate part of the cycle usually results in the bf dumping his confusing gf. Now, the thing is, they can also become very dependent on you, expecting you to be just so, to come when they want, and to follow through with everything that you say. If you are say, 15 minutes late to a date, she will assume that you hate her, that you are sick of her. She has a very unstable self image which causes these feelings. She could be a drug user, BPD is serious, and can cause the sufferer to turn to drugs in order to cover up her emotions. You sound very worried about this whole situation with your gf, but let me tell you that I have been in a relationship with one guy for a year and a 1/2 and we are still together. Here are some tips that might help you out

1. Love her through the rough patches, and always, always stay patient.
2. Remember that she is sensitive and you really need to put her feelings hurt, even if you are upset, think about what she is going through, and just love her.
3. TRY not to be late for dates, she will be worrying every minute that passes, instead, be early, and she will feel much more special.
4. If she is doing stupid things, show your support for her, don't get angry, or contridict her choices, show her your point of view without being rough.

These are a few pointers, BPD makes suffers very sensitive, very scared, and provides VERY rocky relationships. The most important things are Patience and unconditional love.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer
