My friend has a cocaine addiction. How do I help him on the way to quitting?!

Question: My friend has a cocaine addiction. How do I help him on the way to quitting.?
He is very outgoing and seems to be also very restless. The cocaine addiction he has does him no good either - it makes it all worse.

I know many of you will say that I cannot make him quit doing this just by snapping my fingers or talking him out of it, but I still believe that there are things I can say in order to help him.
Any suggestions or pointers.?

I've got to say I kinda like this guy, and think we might be able to have something going on - if it weren't for this horrid addiction of his.
How do I make this out not to sound like it is about me, but about him.?
How do I help him on the way to quitting.? Arguments and facts - any similar experiences much appreciated.Health Question & Answer

I would recommend that you take a look at this site, .?utm_source=ans&utm_medium=pv&utm_content=ld&utm_campaign=rcx," rel="nofollow">http://www.substanceabuse.com/drug-abuse... and you will find a lot of helpful information on there. It explains how to deal with people who have addictions, treatment options that are available, etc. You should try to express your concerns with him, and see if he is responsive.

also on that site there is a toll-free helpline number that I think maybe you should call, and speak to a professional counselor, who will be able to help you further with next steps in this process of helping your friend.

Hope this is helpful, good luck to you and your friend.Health Question & Answer

hes got to want to quit himself, he probably feels more confident when hes on it so maybe try doing other feel good things to get the adrenalin flowing to give him a different feel good factor. bare in mind the cocaine will put severe stress on his heart and give him bad blood circulation. giving up cocaine can be hard and its not an overnight thing it will take months and the craving will always be there!Health Question & Answer

try to encourage him to enter a rehab facilitation center

I attach a website that is about drug and drug addiction and may help you regardless of the country you are in.

If someone is addicted to drugs the common way to approach it is with an intervention. This is where you and his friends or/and family essentially trick him into coming to a meeting. So obviously you wouldnt tell him what its about until he got there. So you would have to make out it was a party or a dinner or something.
You then all approach him together.

I wish you luck sweetie. Some addicts can be helped some cant.
Look up NA meetings too in your area so you can do the intervention armed with some support group info.

Goodluck.

I know a girl that had rich parents and she went to rehab 29 times and was still on heroin. I dont know about cocaine, but I do know that you do not want to get mixed up in that kind of mess, he will ruin your life.

If you don't believe me ask the question on here how many people married cocaine addicts and are still alive, or still married how happy they are and how often they were beat up, hit, or left at home all by themselfves for long periods of times. Or became addicts themselves.Health Question & Answer

Hi honey :) im sorry that you are having a time of it and want to help this person, but through experience, you can't help him until he wants to help himself, my brother was a heroin addict and we tried everything, but deep down the person has to want the help ! sometimes it has to take for the person to hit rock botton before they want to change their ways, my brother decided for himself that this was not the life he wanted, he always knew it, but just never had the strength to do it, then one day he spoke to someone in the social work dept and then he went into rehab for a year, and he is still on the road to full recovery, but he has never took heroin again, he is trying to get his life back again. All i could do was be there for him and support him, visited him and didnt judge him.
I wish you and your friend the best of luck and i hope he sorts himself out before its too late. ( my brother almost died once !Health Question & Answer

have you tried talking to him about quitting it, the only reason i ask is because anybody who is on cocaine, gets very paranoid, so i would be very careful how you deal with this if i were you.
does he drink and take drugs, if yes then he will never kick the habit , i am afraid, not unless he really wants too.
he can only do it himself, do not push him to do something he does not want to do. otherwise he may become violent, so be wary ok!

i .
do know and have watched others in the same situation, that they do become very restless and hyper active, that is what happens
so be careful ok!

good luck . i wish you all the best.Health Question & Answer

i was an addict myself hooked on cocaine. I hid it from all my friends and as an addict you get very good at doing that. Your right in saying you can't tell him to give it up he can only do that when ready. Rehab is great if you have the money..... I didn't i did it on my own and it was my own choice. He has to be ready to stop taking it until he is ready he will keep using. I moved away from all the people I used to hang out with and took it with. Was the only way I could kick the habit and I did it on my own with no rehab just a change of scenery. temptation is great amazing how common it is! only he can choose to stop you can only wait and be there if and when he asks for your help. That is a true friend. Hope this helps you, and good luck to you both. x xHealth Question & Answer
