Question: I have Bipolar 1, I tend to self harm.?
I need other ways to release the emoitional pain, any suggestions would be appreciated, I do see a therapist twiced a week; but when I'm alone, the feelings are unstopableHealth Question & Answer

I also self harm :( To stop the urges i sometimes write poetry or listen to music :) It really helps :)

I know others have sugested it, but writing down how you feel can be really helpful - you can show it to your therapist, too, if you want to.
Getting a punching bag (or punching a pillow).
Taking up kickboxing, or Tai Chi, or something similar.
Going to a quiet places and screaming your lungs out.
Painting, or songwriting, or something creative like that.
Calling up a helpline and just talking.
Calling a friend or relative you can trust to listen without judging.

I used to cut too. I would call friends and just talk until I felt better; I'd play guitar (any creative outlet can help), and I'd journal. Journaling helped me more than anything else. I found it would focus my feelings and thoughts and just get them out.

Try to avoid being alone at all costs.

Some of us do. I also use prayer, and my faith but there are times when the emotional pain is too much. Keep seeing your therapist, let them know what is going on, and ask for more coping mechanisms like journaling or listening to very loud music. That sometimes works for me. you need to see a doctor or pychiatrist who can perscribe the proper medications. This isn't a run of the mill depression that a therapist can treat on their own. But a therapist as well as proper perscriptions from a doctor is a good idea.Health Question & Answer

writing your problems down it helps alot more than you think otherwise i couldn't go through most days
hitting objects other than ppl animals things of that sort
karate or however you spell it kick boxing stuff like that would be good
