Question: I am so depressed because of my physical traits.?
Ever since I've grown older, I am becoming more and more depressed since physically, I am just very mediocre or I have a lack of personality and I think I have an identity crisis. I am male and just 5'6 in height, 18 yrs. old. obviously I am very short and also I'm thin like 125 lbs, I don't like anything about me but I am considered good looking though but it seems like everywhere I go, people seem to criticize on my height and my weight and it is VERY hard for me to develop any personality because of this, I have no confidence, i don't talk now. I wish that I can do something, I did try weightlifting but it was short lived as it didn't do me any good and I tried doing stretching exercises but again, no results. I'm so sick of it, even my friend who is average in looks gets more praising as he is tall, what am I supposed to do.? I used to be a happy person 3 years ago but all that has changed, I don't even want to go out anymore because I'm embarassed. One advantage of this is that my grades are getting high as I am very quiet now and I seem to focus more on school. I always say to myself that I can achieve anything if I want to, but I can't seem to get rid of this problem I'm having. And it's getting worse.

Well, I'm 5'2, so you'd be the perfect height for me. So don't let that get you down.

I think you should get involved in some kind of physical activity. Obviously you're sensitive about your thinness, and I think that getting involved in something would increase your self esteem and make you feel better. It doesn't have to be strict "weightlifting" or whatever, I mean that gets boring really fast. Try wall-climbing, or kayaking, or something that you enjoy but that is also physical.

also, try to find a hobby that you enjoy where you can meet some new people. Photography, or volunteering, or whatever! Although if you can do something good for the community, it can also increase your self confidence.

To a point just don't care about negative things others say about you. The reason why is some people try to make you feel bad to make them self feel better.
Get use to people judging you. To an extent you have no control over how people view you.
Set an achieve reasonable goals for yourself in writing. The length of the goals should range from weekly, to monthly, to several months and some yearly.
Have determination and patience.

Find a hobby that you enjoy doing. Such as watching an maybe reviewing movies, anime, tv shows, photography, reading, basketball, bike riding, hiking, cooking, crafts, doing puzzles and training animals. Just relax, don't judge yourself. To build up your body, try to go to gym and have some work-out. I have also a friend like you and I suggest him to have a gym. He tried it and now he got the body that he is looking for before. You can also do this. All you need is your time and patience.
