I'm Home Alone and I'm Scared, Even Though There is No Reason to Be?!

Question: I'm Home Alone and I'm Scared, Even Though There is No Reason to Be.?
I'm 13 and am home alone, and I live in a very very safe town in a door with locked doors and windows, and I think I can hear footsteps upstairs. I know there's no one upstairs, because, with my heart pounding, and a phone set to dial 911 and a sharp knife in my hand (I was really scared) I went upstairs and looked everywhere where someone might be, but there was no one there. I know I'm being paranoid and there is no one else up there, and I need some tips on how to calm myself down. I wonder if I was having like a Panic Attack or something. When I'm home alone I have (non diagnosed, and I have no idea whether or not their real panic attacks) panic attacks sometimes when I get really scared, probably for no reason. Any Advice.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Maybe you shouldn't stay home alone. Have you ever told your parents about your fears.? Maybe they would let you have a friend over or something.

Anyhow, meanwhile maybe you should just try taking some slow, deep breaths and try some relaxation exercises to help calm you down until your parents get back.

Take care.Health Question & Answer

Call your parents or some friends to talk. You can turn on all the lights and put in a good, calming movie (like a happy, Disney movie) Turn on the radio and, for heavens sake, DO NOT WATCH ANY SCARY SHOWS/MOVIES! I know what you're going through. I have some problems with panic attacks (though not as major.) Sometimes wrapping yourself in a blanket and getting in you pj's (or just comfortable) helps. =D

Being afraid to be alone is not abnormal. Although you live in a safe town, you never know how safe it is. also you are extremely young and that may add to your paranoia. My advice to you is to have a distraction when you're home alone i.e., call a friend, surf the internet, watch a movie. Do something to distract yourself from your paranoid thoughts. if this doesn't work, talk to your parents or an adult about this. Health Question & Answer

tell ur parents, and get a dog, have ur parents search the hosue then pop a funny comedy in the dvd player, i used to be the exact same way, its really scary i know, and dont let it go to your head, pray if your religious and keep your head up high, keep all the lights on and remember: its not very likely that can happen. as scary as it is, you will get over it, i can promise. good luckHealth Question & Answer

you're definitely paranoid. dont worry! you'll be fine! you should definitely tell your parents about it if you havent. in the mean time, call a friend, watch tv, do something distracting. once you tell your parents you could go to a counselor or a therapist and they can either help you with the situation by talking and helping you cope (i.e. give you tips on how to calm yourself) or they could also give you medicine to help you. good luck! Health Question & Answer

Have you tried turning on all the televisions in your house.?
When I'm home alone, I usually get freaked out cause my house suddenly turns all quiet. Once I start hearing other noises that I know I'm not making I get kind of freaked out!
Turning on the TV will help you get distracted out of all those other unsignificant noises.

My advice-
Go into your bedroom and lock the door. Turn on some music or call a friend, and just stay in their until your parents get home.
If you want, you could use the time to write an old-fashioned real letter to a friend, or you could re-organize your bedroom!Health Question & Answer

I can relate. That happened today. Same age. This really odd looking guy was knocking on the door, doorbell EVERYTHING! I fraked out and called my mom. He stayed in his truck :0! my mom told me to just stay by the window but not in visible view to see if he leaves. He left and he left a note on the car, it ends up he just wanted to buy one of our trucks. Don't call your parents until your sure or something. And don't look. Let them Steal and leave. Just make sure all the doors are locked while it's light outside. Go into your room, bring a phone, and then shut your door. Turn your t.v. on, so there's noise. Then just watch t.v. or talk to friends on the phone.Health Question & Answer

A woman I know who lives alone says that she likes to turn on the TV so it's not so quiet, even if there's nothing good on. And maybe if you find an interesting show, it will distract you.
