Help need some advice. ive have quit cannabis for 5 weeks and dont feel and think the way i used to? ?!

Question: Help need some advice. ive have quit cannabis for 5 weeks and dont feel and think the way i used to.? .?

im 16 years old and have smoked cannabis quite frequently for about a year and have now decided to quit. Having quit i dont feel im the same person i used to be before i started smoking weed because i used to be a smart, funny, loud, and talkative person now im the exact opposite. im quiet and find it hard to make conversation, i just dont know what to say. i cant do complicated questions in my head anymore and have a rubbish memory and im actually quite thick now so i just feel down and want to be the person i used to be. has anyone gone through is it normal and how did you cope.? will i ever get back to normal.? any suggestions what i should do.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Today is your lucky day because my professor has been talking about this in my psychology of drug use/abuse course. First of all, congratulations on your decision to quit! What you're feeling right now is very common of anyone who quits using marijuana after periods of frequent use. Smoking weed gave you a pseudo-confidence (like you said you were smart, funny, loud and talkative) and now that you don't have that, you're just yourself again. You'll have to find ways to boost your confidence through other things (not drugs/alcohol) like hobbies, schoolwork, creative projects, etc. Yes, certain aspects of your brain functioning have deteriorated as a result of your drug use but LUCKILY it will return to normal over time. Memory problems can be permanent, however.

As far as getting back to being yourself again - I'd say leave your old self behind! Your old self thought it was a good idea to start smoking weed in the first place, leaving you in the slump you're in now. Now that you've quit, you have a fresh start at becoming whoever you want to be. So instead of trying to do all the old things you used to and think the same way, I'd recommend trying to "grow" through this experience and become someone you like and respect! Sounds cheesy I know but it makes sense if you think about it! Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Hey, didn't you just ask this question.? Perhaps you didn't see my previous answer. So, here is what I said before (it's worth re-reading):

First of all, let us separate the truth from the lies. Put aside all the the junk you have heard about brain damage, and cannabis being sinful, and you being wrong and stupid because you tried it. None of that is true. You used it, you quit using it. End of story.

Now, as to what you are feeling. You have made a big change in your life. You have gone from one stage to another, from, perhaps, one set of friends to another. The human personality is a funny thing. It can grieve for a lifestyle just as it can grieve for a lost pet, or friend.

Cannabis gave you a certain way of looking at things, and now you have a different way of looking at things. Neither is better than the other, they are just different. You seem to like the "smart, funny, loud and talkative personality" better than the one that is "quiet, and find(s) it hard to make conversation." I suggest to you, that both personalities are perfectly legitimate ways of living in the world, and interacting with people.

Being quiet and still is extremely undervalued in our frenzied world, but actually has an important place in it. Perhaps you spent the last year being "the life of the party," or of always having a clever thing to say. Now I am suggesting that you can start enjoying this quieter aspect of yourself. This is the one that listens to others. And believe me: the most popular people on the planet are ones that truly can hear what others are saying. One who is truly interested in what the other person is saying always can count on having many close friends.

Making conversation, just for the sake of saying what WE have to say, (and sadly, I know this from experience) doesn't get us very far in the world. Making conversation to put another person at ease, or to let them know that you like them and care about them, on the other hand, is easy, and hugely successful in the social sphere.

I suspect that you are quite bright, and have used that brightness in your social circumstances to "win friends, and influence people." Take a moment to realize that you, quiet, or loud, clever or still, are perfect just they way you are.

Start enjoying and cultivating this quiet part of your personality, and see where it leads you. It is a good quality to have.

Best of luck to you!Health Question & Answer

I think because you were smoking this drug during your growth period, that it may have stumped some of your brain's growth and killed some of the synapses, so it takes longer for you to process information and to literally use your brain. I think over time you will get used to using your new limited brain and it won't be as hard as it is now, but not likely to go back to how it was before, since brain damage is irriversible. It's for this reason that marijuana is called Dope because it can turn someone into one but most potheads never stop smoking long enough to realize how dumbed down they've become.Health Question & Answer
