All too often with tranquilizers and then by putting them in institution's for the mentally ill. In my area alone we had three mental facilities. We now have one which is a quarter of the size that it used to be. Many house wives were labeled crazy or to have had "nervous brake downs".

Depends how long ago you mean. Ages back they were thought to be demons and were killed or exorcised. but in the near past they were just wrapped up in cotton wool and sort of stayed away from society.Health Question & Answer
