I'm not sure what to do about my future? I dropped out of school last year? I'm worried i'll be a bum!?!

Question: I'm not sure what to do about my future.? I dropped out of school last year.? I'm worried i'll be a bum!.?
I'm 16 years old turning 17 next month. I never did good in school and my grades werent that good. In elementary my grades were mostly C's and D's. I think once or twice I only got one B. In middle school I used to get teased and bullied by kids because being overweight and always wearing the same clothes because my parents couldnt afford to buy me clothes. I eventually developed social anxiety from all this teasing and name calling. I used to get scared to go to school because I was scared people would make fun of me. I then even got scared of going in public places. I ended up failing 6th grade and repeated it. I dropped out half way through my 7th grade year and 8th grade year. In 9th grade, I went a month and dropped out last fall. Even though I dont have a 6th grade education, i'm very smart and can read, write, and spell very good. Its like school isnt for me. I might have a higher education level than 6th grade though, LOL. I love working on cars and would love to be a mechanic or collision repair technician. Cars are the only thing I have a shot at. Everything else I suck at LOL. Nothing really interests me except cars.

I tried to take GED classes. I e-mailed the GED counselor in the school district here and she said that she found a GED program and she will contact the principal at my school I went to last year. This was before school started this year. It was like 2 weeks before school started and since then I emailed her twice asking if shes heard anything, and she hasnt responded. I'm either thinking shes busy with schedule changes or shes ignoring. The school is a vocational school, with like trades and stuff and she controls all that also.Health Question & Answer

You had anxiety while watching the video of your school because you feared that those who are watching would think you are not good enough.

If you want to conquer your fears you have to face them.More then once if necessary until the fear is no more. There is no magic pill to remove anxiety or fear of inadequacy.

You are one of many who fears inadequacy and you are certainly not the only one who was/is abused by those who are trying to hide their own inadequacies. If you think you are a bum or fear you will be a bum you will be.You must face your fears because they hold you back.

You can build your self esteem by working on your strenghts and weaknesses.By winning.

Where theres a will theres a way.You will find work as a mechanic or whatever you want only if you always keep the thought in mind.

The universe grants everything you want and that which you do not want. You only need to have it in mind.

I never liked school myself.I always thought of it as a prison with forced labor. No freedom.

I believe anyone can be anything they want even without school education. They can be self taught.

You can buy literature about car mechanics and learn by yourself and visit one of the repair shops and ask them to give you a chance to show your talents because i am sure you have them. You only need a chance to use it even if you do not have sufficient schooling.Health Question & Answer

In my school, students can really get arrested for bullying someone. I guest is because where I'm from is against a law for students to bully another student.

I believed you should of told someone in the school that you was having that problem, or call the board of education in your city/town, or state if anything!Health Question & Answer

You have you're whole life ahead of you. You are still a teenager. I think it would be great to go that vocational school, that is , if she is talking about job-corp. Even if it takes you longer to get you're GED than do it. You don't want to be 30 knowing that you could have had a chance at getting you re GED. You will never know in till you at least try. You need a education. Focus on what you what to do . If you what to be a mechanic then do it, but at least get you education and go from there. Another thing kids tease other kids who are skinny who small , tall, smart. Its not there Future its yours. Your drive the steering wheel in life, yeah a couple of bumps come in the way drive over them and keep driving. Health Question & Answer

Hello =)

I am a home schooled, I have never been that good with academic stuff, I'm more arty.

I know this home-schooled guy that is dyslexic and he LOVES cars he is amazing at 12 he pulled apart and remade a motor and it still worked lol =)

From there he has progressed and now has a great mechanic job.

I think that if you are enthusiastic and willing to learn that you will be hired.

If you were going to hire someone who would it be.?

1: A guy who has a piece of paper with good marks.
or
2: A guy who has low marks but is really eager to learn and committed.?.?.?

If you are worried about meeting new people go to a counselor it will help BIG TIME =)

Good luck =)

P.S I don't think you will be a bum... bums are people who have given up on life and aren't striving for better.Health Question & Answer

Keep working on getting that GED. E-mail that counselor until she responds,or phone her if you've got the number. As you say, she's busy
or ignoring but if you make a point of getting her attention she'll respond eventually. If she doesn't,complain to somebody higher-up.
It's her job to help you in this situation.Health Question & Answer

Have you been able to actually go in person to the GED office.? Ok so let's see...you like cars, and NOTHING else.? Well that's good and bad...good because you have an area to focus on (and mechanics etc are in high demand aren't they.?), but on the bad side, it would be better if you had more interests and therefore more potential areas to go into. Maybe when (I'm sure you will) you finish your highschool courses and are able to look into other more specific courses/diplomas/degrees then you will find something else that interests you as well.
Ok back to the problem, sorry I got sidetracked...I did a lot of my education through distance ed too. But I have not taken all my courses just through one place. Have you looked into any other places that offer highschool courses.? There should be quite a few. A place should NOT ignore a potential student, so I would say get a phone number or address you can go into and really nag them to get things started. Distance Ed courses can usually be started at any time during the school year, so it shouldn't be a problem. Now I see the school you're specifically trying to get into offers trades and all that so I see why you want that particular school, but keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to get your trades training right away. Try concentrating on finishing up highschool and the stuff you might not exactly like because it will be a weight off your mind and it needs to be done.
As for the job stuff...try looking on places like craigslist, in the newspaper etc and see what jobs need what qualifications. There might even be some you can do right now if you want! Good luckHealth Question & Answer

You're not really at all academic and you have social problems with school. Maybe you can put your interest in cars to good use.
See if you can get a job in a local car wrecking yard. It's dirty and hard, but you'll soon know nearly as much as a mechanic and usually they also do mechanical repairs in these yards where you can learn 'on the job'.Health Question & Answer

Dont be silly. A GED works just as well as a highschool diploma, and no one will question it. I have never had any trouble from interviewers or possible hirings. I dropped out of school when i was sixteen, i was going to a christian private school, and was being ridiculed by students, their parents, and staff for being gay. I couldnt take the anxiety anymore, and I left. I got my GED after that, passed with flying colors, and have been working jobs ever since. I worked in radio for 3 years, and worked a full year at a telecomunications firm as an internet technician, and customer service representative for cable, dsl, dial up, and cell phones. If you have a can do attitude, and dont give them a chance to doubt you, you will never have any problems. Its when you try to explain why you dropped out, why you got a GED, why you didnt finish highschool, that they will question you. If they ask you why you got a GED instead of finishing highschool, answer that highschool wasnt challenging enough for you, so you decided to get your life on the fast track, or simply answer that it was for personal reasons. You dont have to discuss that with an interviewer, it is none of their business. In most cases, they are more concerned with how you look, how your personality is, and how well you can work with others, they dont care about your personal life, or achedemic record. I even beat out a college grad for my possition at the telecomunications firm. Dont belittle yourself, pull yourself up by your bootstraps and say "I can do this, i am just as good as they are, and my life is going to be great."Health Question & Answer

highschool kids are usually stupid and mindless dont let them bother you! they are not better than you at all. i wear the same clothes everyday even though i have other clothes im just a lazy scum bag. haaha its really not that bad. just do what you want to do if you want to finish school go up to the campus and say you want to get a ged! they are more likely to help you if you go up in person and are persistent its easier to blow someone off over the phone. if you dont wanna do that then go be a mechanic or something and go to a psychiatrist about your anxiety so they can prescribe you stuff so you'll calm down. dont trip ill probably be working at some department store at the mall for minimum wage. sad but true. ive never had a job before and it sometimes it scares me that im gonna mess up. people are too wrapped up in money and fame. good luck to yaHealth Question & Answer
