It was called Manic Depression. It's over diagnosed, if you go to a psychiatrist, they will most likely say you are Bi-Polar if you say you are depressed, and have some highs and lows.

The terms melancholia (meaning depression) and mania have been around since the Ancient Greeks, and the idea that there was some connection between the two was around as early as the 2nd century AD.
The current idea of bipolar disorder can be traced to the 1850s.
