Question: The doctors said i am stressed and a counsellor would be good for me.Anyone else been to a counsellor before.?
Is it embarassing.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It can be embarrassing at first, but you'll soon learn that they aren't there to judge or tell you how to run your life. A good councilor is there to help you make sense of all the emotions you have.

Think of the person as you own, personal diary... who is able to guide you through your roughest times.

It's for the best.

EDIT: The best way to get the most help out of it is to be COMPLETELY honest with them so they can see things from your perspective. They're there to be your friend and they aren't obligated to share your secrets. Don't worry about shocking them, either. In their line of work, they've heard a lot of horror stories and they've known many terrible people. They won't think anything bad about you. Just relax and be your true self. It helps the process run a lot smoother and you'll begin to enjoy it.Health Question & Answer

Hayley,

Everyone in the world at some point in their lives could use the
advice and help of a counselor. Go ahead with it and be as
open and honest with him/her as possible. It takes a strong
person to get help. Sometimes stress is overwhelming and
you need coping skills that can be shown to you by a counselor.

Good luck to you. I will be thinking of you.

It is not embarrassing at all...
I used to think that counselors were for losers and crazy people... I met some counselors while working at the hospital and starting talking with her, and then started seeing her in consultations after I left from there. It is very good to talk to someone who will not judge you... besides, they don't tell you what to do, they guide and help you find the answersHealth Question & Answer

not at all embarassing. i was a bit anxious and nervous at first, but i loved mine. she was very helpful. unfortunately, insurance won't cover her anymore, so i had to stop. i do miss going. it will be a great experience if you open up and practice the tools he/she may teach you. good luck!Health Question & Answer

At first it feels awkward because it's all about you, you are not really having a shared Dialogue, but after a few visits, it's very cathartic. Go for it and remember, they only want to help and they are not judging you.Health Question & Answer

No, they're usually really friendly and don't ask awkward questions, I was really nervous my first time too, don't worry, they're good, it helps get a lot off your chest and they never judge =)Health Question & Answer

Yes, I have been to a counselor before. The first visit or two is kind of uneasy because you don't know the counselor. It made me self conscience for a while. But after I got started it was good.Health Question & Answer

It can be embarassing - but it can be so helpful! There are other ways to reduce stress - like meditation and this you can learn and do all on your own!Health Question & Answer

I don't know what kind of counselor you would be seeing but they are just people. Nothing to be embarrassed about they are the ones who are out to help you.Health Question & Answer

It doesn't have to be. It can be a big relief. And if there are any questions you aren't comfortable answering you don't have to answer them.Health Question & Answer

No, it's not embarrassing. They are usually friendly and make you feel at ease. They can help you out with ur problems. Just find one who you like.Health Question & Answer
