According to "The Pill Book" Seroquel is an anti-psychotic drug. Normal dosage according to The Pill Book is 150- to 750-mg per day.
My wife has been given eight 50-mg tablets and has only taken five.

Seroquel isn't really addictive. It is not a controlled substance. It is labeled and sold as an antipsychotic, but it also causes sedation. A lot of drugs can be used for multiple effects, including ones that they are not marketed for. Again, I wouldn't be concerned about the addictiveness and she is receiving such a small dose that I don't think any side effects would be too concerning either.Health Question & Answer
Part of Seroquel's inherent utility as an antipsychotic is that it is incredibly sedating, more so than just about any other drug in the class. Its sedative properties could be more potent than something in the benzo class, but they're far too different to really compare them. Because it's so sedating, it finds 'off label' use as a sleep aid at very low doses. The low doses minimize the risks of side effects from the drug, which can be quite unpleasant.
It's got the addictive potential of table salt, if that. It's not abusable, it's not dependency forming in any way shape or form, and you don't really develop a tolerance to it. Its a mood stablizer and sedative. Those class of drugs make you sleepy. Sleeping pills are sedatives along w/ alcohol. I was once taking 50 mg in the morning and 100 mg at bedtime when I was 14 thru 16. (I was also taking it with 150 mg of Effexor XR once a day). It did make me gain weight (food had a wonderful taste and regret now how big I've gottn during that time) and slepted everytime I took it. It's like my body would never get immune to fight the sleepiness. Everytime I've slepted like a baby.Health Question & Answer
I've never heard of it being for sleeping, but it sure will knock her out. Is she bipolar or something.? Yes they do cause weight gainfor some people but I'm pretty sure they're not addictive like a sleeping pill, though anything that you rely on to go to sleep could make you "addicted" in a wayHealth Question & Answer
It's my personal opinion that it's malpractice to use this drug off label as a sleeping pill.
Yeah, you'll sleep. But it's not good sleep. And you should look up the side effects of this drug. The benefits do not outweigh the risks for use as a sleeping pill.
