Cutter at my high school?!
Question: Cutter at my high school.?
I'm not sure what the right thing to do in this situation is. I'm a sophomore in high school, and I know this girl in my world history class. Let's call her...Rachel. Anyway, me, one of my friends, and Rachel all sit in a row in the front. Yesterday, my friend pointed out to me that Rachel had small cuts on her forearm. It's obvious that she's cutting herself. Telling anyone never even crossed my mind because I know that she's not suicidal or anything. Since I didn't want her to get caught, I told her after school that she should probably cover them up so none of the teahers see. Then, today she didn't cover them up at all. I think she's not covering them up because she just wants attention, but I'm having second thoughts about not telling anyone. Should I keep quiet and try to handle this myself.? Should I tell my guidance counselor.? Or, should I tell my history teacher.? THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!!! Health Question & Answer

Tell your Guidance Counsler IMEDIATLY!! it doesnt matter why shes doing it, it just matters that shes doing it! You could be saving her life. Maybe shes not covering them up because shes afraid to tell someone herself, and is hoping someone will for her. Please tell someone!

Telling the counselor seems like the right thing to do but its NOT! Heres why. Cutters are a different breed. They're not like the emo kids or anti socials. They cut because physical pain is easier for them to deal with. Telling the counselor will only upset "Rachel" and guess what. She'll cut again but this time you will have had a part in it. She isnt going to kill herself. Let her do things her way. This is something that she will live with for the rest of her life. Once you are a cutter you will always be one. Leave it alone! Be her friend. If she needs help, she'll get it on her own.
