What people have failed to mention is that insanity is a legal term not a psychological term. Psychosis and insanity are two different things the difference being that psychosis is basically the inability to distinguish reality which is in the form of delusions and hallucinations. Insanity is the inability to tell right from wrong. Read up on the the murderer and grave robber Ed Gein that should give you some idea of how the court applies insanity.

I would say if you go out and kill people and not realize that you did something wrong then you are insane. If you are experiencing some other psychosis then you are mentally ill. Health Question & Answer

I don't think they use the term insane anymore. What they focus on is if your behavior or thinking causes you enough problems that it interferes with your life. Such as your home life, school, friendships, etc. We are all a little nuts when you come down to it. If your condition is extreme, that is what you need to decide.Health Question & Answer

Insanity is anything out of the realm of 'normal'. 'Normal' is what is average. If you start to notice strange things going on the best thing to do is to talk it over with a parent first, and if needed, go to a doctor.Health Question & Answer

insanity is repeating the same actions and expecting a different result. Go to a psychologist, they'll be able to determine whether you are sane or not.Health Question & Answer
