If you go to a doctor with all of these symptoms, the first thing they will (or should) do is to try and make ties between them, to figure out what the source of the problem is.

For example, the issue with sleep isn't a symptom that stands alone, it comes from one of the others - most likely the anxiety. The panic attacks are the same - they aren't an isolate, they come from the anxiety. That leaves you with depression and anxiety, and it's hard to say if one causes the other... are you depressed because the anxiety is carving such a huge hole out of your life, or did you get anxiety from the chronic depression.? Or did they arise separately from one another.? Co-morbidity (two illnesses occurring simultaneously) of depression and anxiety is common... when you have one, it's not uncommon to have the other as well.

Once you've narrowed it down to those two disorders, it's important to figure out WHY you're experiencing them. Is the depression a chemical imbalance that spontaneously occurred (biological source), or is it an emotional response to trauma/stress in your life (outside source).? Did you recently experience one of the following - death in the family, end of a major relationship, loss of job or demotion, a move, a falling out with a friend, financial stress, etc. etc. etc..? Any of these can fuel depression, as well as anxiety (anxiety from the financial strain, from having no job security, from being alone... the list goes on).

A lot of the time, it's not medication you need, but a life adjustment. If you change the things that are making you depressed or anxious, the depression and anxiety will go away. Sometimes all you have to do is TALK about the problems, and it will alleviate the depression/anxiety. There's a reason talk therapy is so popular - it works. The most important thing is for you to get to the ROOT of the problem - not just mask it with medication.

I know that was a long answer, but I hope it helps. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....
