It sounds worse than it is. "Depression" and "Therapy" together are scary at first glance. this is simply a recommendation of a type of therapy for mild depression (key word being mild). I had a similar experience and I was shocked as well.
I know its strange to hear about a parent who may be struggling, but just because someone goes to therapy doesn't make them crazy. Almost everyone has a therapist these days. If she is receiving help it is good, she probably didn't want to worry you.Health Question & Answer

All it means is that she should go to counseling for depression. Both psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy involve counseling. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a therapy designed to change one's cognitions (the way they think about things) so their behavior will change. Sort of like getting someone to see how their fear of germs is irrational and they shouldn't be washing their hands every ten seconds. It's nothing painful or unsafe. Health Question & Answer

okay calm down lots of people see therapist..this doesn't mean anything is wrong.. be proud you moms getting help..i go to therapy all the time twice a week and i been in psych hospital twice for eating disorder..lots of people have mild depression..its not your fault..and just ask your mom..she won't get mad trust me..im sorry about your dad..but have your mom get help can make you feel unsure..but its okay your mom at least handling it..she could be in denial and not dealing with it..Health Question & Answer
