Pain pill addiction withdrawl. please help me!?!

Question: Pain pill addiction withdrawl. please help me!.?
my mom is 34 years old and has been taking hydrocodones every day for about 2 years, in the beggining she took about 12 or 13 then slowly went down to about 6 a day. the last time she took some was yesterday, she took 4 of them, she has not taken any today because she is trying to get off of them. she has been having loose bowels, nausea, vomiting, kinda shakey, she will get hot then cold and ever once ina while her heart will start beating fast. im very proud of her for trying to get off of them i was wondering are these normal syptoms for withdrawl and if so how long will she have to go through this before she is back to normal.? and also is there anything i can do to help her, any medicines that would be okay to take for these symptoms.? i dont want any mean or stupid answers please. i asked this once already and im asking again with more info. please help me out! thanks so much

Answers:
Should talk to doctor. She is going through an optiate detox and it's much like having a very bad flu. Those symptoms are normal. A slow taper is the best way to go.
Just show your mother your support and if you don't talk to your doctor then ask your pharmacist for over-the-counter remedies like gravol etc.
Call this number 1-800-405-8409 for advice and check out the website: http://www.addictionwithdrawal.com/hydro...
I would also suggest narcotics anonymous for support after the detox.
Footnote: My experience
The detox for me was easier then staying off the stuff for good. I had the same problem with narcotic pain killers. The cravings kept coming back every time I stopped and I would use again. I finally went on a methadone maintenance program. I stayed on that for a couple of years which stopped all cravings and relapses until I learned to live life without having to use narcotics or other mind altering drugs to escape from life. I'm tapering off methadone now. I'm telling you this just because narcotics are so powerful and some people may need a little more help depending on the severity of the addiction. Certainly not for everyone. Some just stop and end of story.

I did this when I was withdrawing from oxycodone 15mg but I had to go to the Hospital because my potassium levels dropped dramatically and I needed fluids from all the nausea & diarrhea so just keep a very close eye on herHealth Question & Answer

she is going to have to go through the withdrawal's.she can call her doctor and ask if she can have a klonadine patch that would help her.but she needs to go through this the first 4 days are the hardest after about 5 days she should be feeling a little better and she should be through it after seven days.but she should be weaning herself off of them say like she took four one day take three the next day then 2 then 1 then go from there she should not stop all of a sudden but if she is going to do it that way she is going to have to go through the withdrawal's it is hard but she can make it just be there for her .keep her on the couch and get her what she needs because i am sure she can't move right know.Health Question & Answer

If she thinks she may be having very serious dangerous withdrawal, then she might want to check into a rehab. They will give appropriate dosages of meds that can help ease the withdrawal. If she really wants to do this on her own, and doesn't seem to be encountering any really dangerous effects, she might want to try easing up on the dosage even more before quitting altogether. Like taking half a pill every 6-8 hours, then half a pill every 12 hours. The best thing for her is to try and sleep. Taking a couple of Tylenol PM should be harmless. And drink plenty of chamomile tea to stay hydrated and help settle the stomach. Dehydration is a major concern when having such distress with the tummy. And of course try to eat something. If only saltine crackers, ginger ale, should also help with the stomach. If she can get through the first 48 hours, the worst will probably be over. I don't personally have experience with the hydrocodones, but I detoxed from severe alcohol abuse many times on my own, and twice in rehab. And basically it's all about water, sleep, and some food. Tell her to hang in there, it gets better. If she would like a book regarding addiction, Rational Recovery by Jack Trimpey is excellent. That book saved my life, when all else failed. And it's principles will certainly work for pills too.And it takes away the need for the support group mentality. Kindest regards and good luck!Health Question & Answer
