Question: Shud i go for drinking or smoking in depression.?.?
hi,i m 21 years,these days,i hv no job,hving prblms with the family i m living with these days,i m so stressed, in depression,nobdy seems to understand me,family is taking me in wrong, i m trying to talk ,but they r nt listening to me,if they do,thn they dnt believe me,wht do i do.?i feel like going for drinking or smoking ,but i cnt do tht as i cnt do tht in this family ,neither our culture or religion or anything allows us to do tht, wht do i do,i really need smthing to relax or to help me wht do i do .? as i feel like drinking or smoking ,is it normal for ppl with depression to feel tht way
i m nt permanent resident here yet,so i cnt even work anywhr yet,i m waiting for my permanent resident card,so tht i can start working,i feel like i m hving prblms in every aspect of my life,my family is in india ,they r supporting me but they can only help me psychologically, & i dnt wanna give them anymroe tension either

i'm sorry you're feeling depressed. both alcohol and cigarettes are depressants so will obviously make you feel worse. i would recommend going to a doctor, who will probably prescribe anti-depressants.

you might also want to look for a part time job, find time to relax doing something you like (eg reading or listening to music), talk to your family about the problems you're having and go out with friends or make some. friends are important and are always good for a hug and a smile. its okay to have a glass of wine after a hard day, but dont make it a habit. actually, a glass of wine or a light beer a day helps your heart. smoking slowly kills you (in most cases)

First off, if you are looking for a job, I know times are tough, but if the above is any example of how you type or communicate, then you won't find a job in a professional office. You can still work here if you apply for a green card or some sort of work permit. You can always contact a temp agency to find out what the proper procedure is to working in this country. They are very useful. They are also great in helping you get work even if it's only for a few weeks at a time, it can get you started in getting your foot in the door. Some temp agencies can also help you "polish" yourself for a professional environment. Start with that. Get established and then you can get health care insurance and start getting the help you need.

Drinking is a downer. It will cause further depression. That is a clinically proven fact. If you actually start an addiction, like smoking or drinking, or doing drugs, you are guaranteed not to get yourself out of depression, because you can't end the addiction easily and get the vicious cycle going that will never stop your depression.
