Have you ever been to a councilor or psychiatrist?!

Question: Have you ever been to a councilor or psychiatrist.?
Did it do you good.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I've been to several councilors/psychiatrists during my life so far, starting at the age of 5. I'm 19 now, and must say I haven't had many good experiences with them. From what you've said, it sounds like we must have been seeing the same people! LOL.

Sometimes it can be nice just to talk to someone, but it can be frustrating when they don't suggest anything for you to do to help yourself. I even had one fall completely asleep on me once--it made me feel like "Am I so boring you can't even pay people to listen to me.?" Haha. (She did apologise later and said she'd taken some sort of medicine that made her drowsy, so that made me feel a little better.)

Anyway, I got fed up, quit going and taking meds about 3 years ago, and I'm actually better now on my own. (I was diagnosed with OCD, social anxiety, and mild depression.) A little while later I found out I'm just a highly sensitive person as defined by the book with the same name and it fits me 100%, unlike the medical conditions I was supposed to have, which only fit me a little bit here and there. Except OCD, which I still think I have...

On the other hand, therapy really helped my aunt get over her major depression. So I guess it depends on the therapist you go to and what your issues are.

If you think you'll like your new therapist, you may as well give him a try! There's really no harm in that and maybe this one will help you.

Best wishes and good luck!Health Question & Answer

Yes, I go bi-weekly still, takes awhile sometimes to find one you "click" with. We talk about everything, sometimes things of no real importance at all. He's very direct with me which I like, hate the ones that always "side" with me. Give your new one a couple visits, if your comfy and feel like you can easily talk to him/her and feel like they listen, continue, if not, you need to keep looking, but don't expect them to always say what you want to hear, if their doing that, their really not helping you.
Good luck with your new one.Health Question & Answer

I suffered from depression since childhood. I did see counselors in high school but I don't think it helped. However, I was very immature at the time and maybe it's my own fault they didn't help.

I finally saw a psychiatrist and got put on an antidepressant when I was in my 20s. It worked like a miracle. My life changed dramatically for the better.

I also a counselor for a little while as an adult and I do think it helped. Health Question & Answer

Hi there, yes I've been to one session so far(therapist), I just started going. BUT I've been to a session with my boyfriend because his dr. ask him to bring me to a session one time. He's improved dramaticly and truthfully I think everyone should go see one. It helps you out with any issue you might have now or from the past. It helps you out and makes you a better person. This is why I'm going now :O)

Best of Luck!

Like other professions, there are a lot of bad doctors. Keep looking, you will find one that will actually interact with you. If your not getting what you need, try a different doctor.

Good luck. I would be interested to know if you find someone that you click good withHealth Question & Answer

I went to a Counselor and it did help. It did not cure my depression but it helped having someone to talk too. She got me talking about things that I have forgotten about that had happened in my childhood. It makes you put things into perspective.Health Question & Answer
