Question: I am really nervous about giving a group presentation in school. How can i calm my anxiety.?
I am not necessarily shy. Usually I am the opposite and act pretty outrageous. But being in a situation where I have to formally present in front of a group scares me to death. I still have two weeks to the presentation. Any tips on how I can appear calm and not get all red and stuttery.?Health Question & Answer

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but...you're perfectly normal.

1 - Remember that just about everyone else is just as nervous as you.

2 - When you're up there, picture everyone in the room naked on toilets. Sure as hell makes everyone seem less scary. Just don't giggle. :)

3 - Practice the hell out of your presentation. Practice until you barely even have to look at your index cards. It'll make it that much easier.

4 - Take your time. Remember to breath. Deeeeeeep breaths. It'll relax you.

prepare, prepare, prepare

say your speech/presentation over and over until you could do it in your sleep

record yourself and listen to it, then watch yourself in the mirror as you say it...

as far as getting red or stuttery, i feel your pain- i hate to look nervous too, but if you just really, really feel prepared then you will be able to move through the presentation without having to think about it

oh- and one more thing: make sure you prepare an ending to your presentation. have a closing remark ready that you like and are comfortable with, and when you come to the end STOP and sit down.Health Question & Answer

You would not be normal if you did not have some anxiety about appearing in front of a audience. We all fear "rejection".
Someone above said tell a joke to "break the ice", and develop a relaxed atmosphere is the best way to go. I agree.

Ask your doctor for some beta-blockers like Inderal or something. A lot of performers take these just before they go on stage. It calms the nervous system and stops the shaking, and feeling hot and sweaty. Only take these at times where you REALLY need it, where you know you will be really nervous. Don't get used to taking them because they will effect your metabolism, so a once-off will work really well for you.
