ADD is not exactly the same as ADHD as the H stands for hyperactivity.
I have ADD but am not hyperactive except for the fact that i fidget when i have to sit for long period during a boring conversation or meeting. I also find myself daydreaming during a long conversation, while driving, while doing chores.
As a child I was labelled stupid, except with languages and writing, where I would rise above the rest of the class.
Well these are the symptoms that medicine will look for in you to try and diagnose whether you have or not ADD, (one might not have all the symptoms to have ADD):
Adults
Often making careless mistakes when having to work on uninteresting or difficult projects
Often having difficulty keeping attention during work
Often having difficulty concentrating on conversations
Having trouble finishing projects that have already been started
Often having difficulty organising for the completion of tasks
Avoiding or delaying in starting projects that require a lot of thought
Often misplacing or having difficulty finding things at home or at work
Often distracted by activity or noise
Often having problems remembering appointments or obligations
The most important thing with ADD is just knowing that you have it. That way you can stop blaming yourself and I found that knowing the real reason for losing interest in finishing tasks makes it easier to just kick myself back into gear.
Anyway, we still need a confirmation from an expert as they can help a lot.

It's not bipolar if you are an adult. Usually adult ADD is confused as bipolar disorder, especially in women. ADD in girls and women doesn't always look like a hyper kid who can't pay attention. Recent studies have revealed that girls and women with ADD may be misdiagnosed because it doesn't look like the hyper 8 year old boy stereotype of ADD. check out this website
