Is it possible to have schizophrenia without your brain being affected? ?!

Question: Is it possible to have schizophrenia without your brain being affected.? .?
If someone was to have a brainscan and it were to show no signs of schizophrenia, but said person still hears voices and sees things internally/externally and the rest of the schizophrenia symtoms, what would be a valid explanation for this.? As I'm confused.

(also, how is schizophrenia pronounced.? I pronouce it skitz-oh-fren-ia. I've heard others say skitz-oh-free-nia. The latter sonds awkward and incorrect.) Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Research into Schizophrenia using brain scanning showed that although some people had definite changes to the structure of the brain, other scans appeared normal. It has also been shown that when somebody is actually experiencing hallucinations, there is electrical activity in the corresponding area of the brain.
So you could have a normal brain scan and still be suffering from the illness, as there is no definitive diagnostic test for it.
Personally, I've always pronounced it the second way but I think it depends on regional dialect as to which pronunciation fits better.Health Question & Answer

They'd probably have schizophrenia with hyperactivity in the frontal cortex of their brain. Or, they might have shizophrenium disorder, which goes away by itself in 1-6 months, but is similar to shizophrenia. also, the person may some sort of psychosis where they are depressed but not shizophrenic.

That's why I think a doctor won't say someone doesn't have shizophrenia if it's not noticeable in the brain scan. Or maybe they'd check to see if they had another type of psychosis.

In face, brain scans are probably inaccurate, so I don't know if a doctor would even use one in the first place. He'd use an eeg.Health Question & Answer

No, that isn't possible. Mental symptoms are caused by certain workings of certain areas of the brain. Your brain fires certain neurons which cause reactions in the brain, and can be seen on a brain scan. You can't have hallucinations which do not produce any brain change.

Both pronunciations are correct. But the latter is more commonly said in Britain, so if you're not British, it may sound odd to you.Health Question & Answer

I have worked with people who sadly have this condition,
As far as i am aware you can not have one without the other, unless you are on medication and the voices are a side effect.?
Once you have been diagnosed with it that's it!!Health Question & Answer

Schizophrenia (skitz-oh-free-nia) is caused by a chemical imbalance and so won't show on brain scan but may show on EEG (electroencephalogram)Health Question & Answer

Schizophrenia is almost certainly an illness at the biochemical rather than structural level. brain scans are thus normal.Health Question & Answer
