Yes it's called withdrawal. also after you have detoxed , if you have become dependent upon alcohol (as I did ) you get depressed because you wonder how you will handle problems without a drink. Alcohol was like my best friend and when I gave it up , I was very sad and lonely and of course depressed. But I joined a 12 step group that showed me how to live alcohol and drug free.If you are addicted , there is no weaning off glass by glass. If you are afraid of detoxing then go to your ER and they will keep an eye on you until you can go to a medically supervised detox where they will monitor your blood pressure and such. best of luck to you. I did it and so can you !............................KBHealth Question & Answer

I was depressed....and bored....for about six months after giving up alchohol. I found that there is a physiological reason for this. To put it very simply (which is the only way that I can understand it :), your brain has lots of receptors open to recieve the 'hit' that you got each time you drank. It takes some time for these receptors to realise that this is not going to happen any more and to quieten down. Therefore, you could say you will have a dissatisfied brain until this happens. This is part of withdrawal but carries on much longer than the 48 hours it takes the alcohol to leave your system.
I think that advice given by another answerer, about joining a support group is a good one. I joined AA and wouldn't be here without the support I got from them. Best wishes. Just keep on keeping on :)Health Question & Answer

It depends on your alcohol consumption. If you were addicted, then you're going through stages. You can't just stop immediately without side effects, mental dependence is harder to break out of. It would be simpler if you slowly glass by glass took alcohol away.Health Question & Answer

alcohol has a very serious withdrawl period, we would get patients in the ER in alcohol withdrawl and have to keep them asleep due to their pain and symptoms. Do your best to stay positive and keep away from the alcohol-you'll be a much better person without it!!!Health Question & Answer
