Do I have a comprehension problem (ADD/ADHD)?!

Question: Do I have a comprehension problem (ADD/ADHD).?
During school I day dream a lot. I can usually pay attention in some of my classes that I'm more interested in, but the ones I'm not, I can't pay attention at all. I really try because its hard to do your homework without knowing the lesson. My mind wanders almost all the time. I always yell at myself (not literally) to pay attention, but 5 minutes later I find myself doing other homework, playing with a notebook, anything. Or if I read a book, I can read the words, but I'm not processing them. So when I finish a chapter I might not have a clue as to what I read, and I have to read it all over again. Same thing happens with tests--I read a question and won't understand it. I have to read it 5 or 6 times before I go "Ohh, that's what they're asking!".

I'm not hyper at all, actually very tired and mellow. I don't talk much either. I have my bouts of "hyper-ness" but they only last 20 minutes and I'm left feeling extremely tired.

So, do I have some type of comprehension problem.?Health Question & Answer

You may want to look into a neurodevelopmental assessment through the HANDLE Institute (www.handle.org) to determine why you are having concentration issues. Even with a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD there can be several different reasons why different individuals receive this label - HANDLE can identify whether it's auditory processing, visual issues, etc. that are making it so hard for you to pay attention. It's not motivation, so don't beat yourself up for having difficulty!
I've seen lots of people (all ages) benefit from this program for learning, attention, behavioral and sensory issues ranging from more 'mild' conditions like Learning Disabilities to very severe problems like stroke, brain injury, autism, etc. Health Question & Answer

Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily. They should be certified as being free of mercury, and if containing vitamin E, it should be shown as from a natural source; otherwise it is synthetic: avoid it! Consume with an orange, grapefruit, or their freshly squeezed juice, or another good antioxidant. Consider taking a 100% natural vitamin B complex, daily. Drink 2 - 4 cups of green tea, daily: preferably honey/lemon ginseng, from Celestial Seasonings: supermarket tea, or health food aisles. As with all herbal/green teas, use lemon/lime, and/or a little sweetener (NOT ARTIFICIAL!!!) but no cream, or milk. Exercise daily.

Xylitol is preferable, (health food stores) or fruit sugar (fructose, such as "Fruisana", from supermarket sugar aisles) or even a little honey, because these will reduce "sugar spikes", which later deplete you of energy. Ginseng reputedly boost energy levels. Ginseng: Panax Ginseng (Chinese/Korean/Japanese), panax quinquefolius (American) Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian)). It is also known as man root, life root and heal all. Have a high protein breakfast of fish, or eggs and possibly bacon (these provide a lasting energy boost: no carbohydrates for 2 hrs, or extremely little. I note with interest that the most recent Olympic decathlon gold medalist had scrambled eggs for breakfast. Eat in accordance with your "nutritional type":- enter that term in the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com/

Minimise/eliminate consumption of highly processed foods, particularly grain products, such as white bread, donuts, cake, cookies/biscuits, or anything with sugar. Opt for more wholefoods, non-starchy vegetables (especially broccoli, and spinach, with lemon, or vinegar), and fruit. Have a medical checkup, (thyroid function, adrenals, etc.) including blood tests, for low iron levels. Many people in Western countries are lacking in minerals, such as zinc, magnesium, and calcium, so it is a good idea to have those levels checked as well.

Study tips are shown in section 13, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris (find your learning style, and adapt) and learning problems in section 36. It would help a lot if you were MOTIVATED to learn (section 28 refers). Make notes as you read, with a heading showing chapter, and page no.
