Anxiety attacks before falling asleep?!

Question: Anxiety attacks before falling asleep.?
I've been having some weird anxiety right before I dose off to sleep. I've always had anxiety, but not when I'm falling asleep. I'm an otherwise healthy 23 year-old female and I just graduated college 2 months ago, and I'm currently searching for employment. That is really the only thing I'm semi-stressed about. Being that I'm not working, I don't have insurance, so visiting a doctor is out of the question right now.

Anyone know what this is, and what I can do to help it in the meantime.?Health Question & Answer

I know exactly what you are going through. I always knew I had anxiety, but one night when I went to bed, I started feeling weird. My heart was beating erratically and I was shaking and weak. My husband had to carry me to the car. I had nausea and just felt like I was spinning. I thought it was a heart attack. I was told by the ER doctor that I was having a full blown panic attack. He said most times at night is when you will have them. Even though you are ready to sleep, your mind is still going. I was started on Paxil 4 days prior and I think the Paxil brought it to a head. I was switched to Zoloft and it worked wonders. It really helped a ton. The things that used to bother me, don't anymore. I was on it for 2-1/2 years and then weaned myself off of it. I have been fine ever since. Mine started about 4 months before my wedding. I hope this helps. Try taking a hot bath before bed. I don't know if you meditate, but sometime doing that right before bed can help too. Good luck. Health Question & Answer

Do you mean anxiety attacks.? Are they stopping you from falling asleep, you don't give details.? Not having a job can be enough to cause some anxiety. Before bed can you have a warm bath, that's very relaxing.? also make sure you don't have caffeine after about 4pm, and maybe some exercise before bed will make you tired enough to fall straight off to sleep.

If not, perhaps a sleeping tablet or Nytol might help. Other than that, a herbal remedy to help you through this period where you're feeling anxious about your lack of work would help with the sleep problem.

Hope some of this helps.Health Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

You're obviously anxious about finding work which is affecting your sleep. Usually, when we're worried and anxious, we obsess about it at night when it's quiet and we are trying to sleep etc etc.

Try looking on the Internet methods to help you calm down before you sleep and write your thoughts down in a book which should help to take a load off your mind before you sleep.

Th anxiety attacks should clear up once your mind is free.Health Question & Answer

Well it could possibly be that the reason that your having the anxiety attacks at bedtime is cause its quiet possibly for one and your mind is more than likely not relaxing enuff which is making you get upset cause your fresh out of college and was hoping to get a job in the field that you went to college for, cause you've paid alot to attend college either way so its possible that you should try not thinking and worrying about that at bed time.. even though i know from my own experiences that worrying is just what we tend to do most of the time.. best of luck to you..Health Question & Answer

It's just what you said it is it's anxiety and stress. Welcome to the club, everybody in the world is beginning to feel stressed and that is because we depend too much on material things and money and times are not good. Since you are not insured, go to the drug store and buy yourself a mild sedative, that will help you sleep. Try deep breathing and walking, especially if you can find someplace beautiful and peaceful. Health Question & Answer
