I need to regain my confidence.. what is going on?!

Question: I need to regain my confidence.. what is going on.?
My confidence is at an all time low. I just moved to Canada because I was a gambling addict and failed university in the States. I have not gambled for 7 months. I skipped class almost everyday, like a loser. I had everything there... Friends, Girls, Family, Hook-ups to the best parties.

Now I am starting all over in a new university, which is not the same. It is a small commuter university, and I dont have many friends. I also have trust issues. Sometimes I am scared to make friends because I don't want to go back to my old ways and drink on weekdays or gamble. All I do is study now, and it seems like the fun is never there.

If you were in my situation... what would you do.?Health Question & Answer

I think you feel this way cause of two reasons a) you are outside of your confidence area b) there are big changes in your life. Perhaps now you recognize all the money, time and opportunities you have waisted and so you feel down. This a good thing cause now you are working to get on your feet where you have not been before. I was you, I keep on doing what you are doing, as for the new friends don't worry and select them properly, find people who's got the same goals as you do.

I would embrace my new school and new life. Don't worry it is not fun, fun comes later when all the pieces of your life are in correct order. Most universities offer student councelling, so take advantage of this free opportunity to build a better happier you. Study, but take time to relax. Join some club or church group and become more social. I hope your life turns out really great for you. Congratulations at having the courage to start again.Health Question & Answer

you are doing the right thing. Try not to stress out with the fun issue. You are detoxing from your old life style and it will take time. Find friends that are a positive influence. Try finding support groups to talk to. I am not a religious person but I talk to the pastor of our local church. try your hand at gardening that keeps me occupied and it is some what fun. If you can, get a pet.Health Question & Answer

I would probably get involved in sports or find something (aside from gambling) that you enjoy and do that. Find time to connect to your family. Look for good people who you can be friends with. Health Question & Answer

i think its great that you are moving away from that life. you're maturing.

find friends to study with. start hanging out with them outside of studying and maybe they have some hobbies (non drinking/gambling) that you could pick up. Health Question & Answer

They're in that new University somewhere; you'll find them.Health Question & Answer

well, Definitely don;t drink, party and get kicked out of the commuter school. Health Question & Answer

You are doing the right thing.. Give someone a chance, try to make better choices in friends.. Pick someone who doesnt drink and has good habits and give them a shot at friendship.Health Question & Answer

If you have family, you could move close to them. Or, if you already live close to them, you could try to improve your relationship with them. It sounds like what you need is a good pep talk, which is usually given by people that love and care about you. Talk to your mom, dad, sister, brother, or your best friend. Loved ones have a way of telling you all your good qualities when you are down in the dumps. This will help your self esteem, which will increase your self confidence. Hope that helps. If not, try to meet some new friends at school. Join a fraternity or club at school if you have trouble meeting people. Health Question & Answer
