Anybody who's been to a psychiatric hospital, could you tell me about the admission process.? What kinds of questions did they ask.? Did they give you options.? Did you go willingly.?

If you want to be admitted to a psych. hospital, you need to say you are feeling unsafe and you are going to hurt yourself if you are left home. When you get to the hospital, a staff person will go through your personal belongings and take away anything that is considered a danger, namely, "Sharps". These items will be kept in a locked closet until you are being discharged.
You will need to discuss how you are feeling.
For the first 24 hours they will keep a close watch on you.
I think they check on you every 15 minutes.
You will meet with your doctor and a social worker most days to discuss medication adjustment and treatment planning.
There will be groups for you to attend each day.
There is usually a morning "Check In" meeting and an evening "Wrap Up" meeting. I am sorry you are feeling so badly that you are thinking about going into the hospital. I hope you will feel better soon. Best Wishes to you.Health Question & Answer

I have been admitted to hospital a few times but i don't remember anything about the admission process. I was too ill to remember. Sorry. Why do you want to know what questions they ask you.? I was admitted voluntarily most times but have been detained a couple of times too. You are better to go into hospital voluntarily.Health Question & Answer

I've been to the hospital twice, the first I voluntarily committed myself to get help. The second was after an overdose and if I didn't voluntarily go they would have 302'd me. You'll have more options later if you voluntarily go.

They asked me a lot of questions- "symptoms" I had been experiencing, if I felt suicidal, etc.. hard to remember in detail.

They had to check on insurance, get me an id, search me (twice), go through all of my belongings, go over meds, etc... it took awhile.

I was admitted late at night, but the next day some of the counselors followed up with more questions in detail & such.

Although I did think I would only been there for a few days the first time, they kept me for ten since we kept changing meds. The second trip I was out in 6 days.Health Question & Answer

I was forced by the state of GA for self harm and suicide attempts.

I didn't really find their questions uncomfortable. They mainly talked about whether or not I had done this or done that.

I hate it at Peachford. HATED IT. I was the only one there ofr depression. The rest were for drug abuse. They treated me like I was a juvenile delinquent. It was supposed to help me cope with depression and monitor my first few days on antidepressants. Peachford (the mental hospital) made it even worse. They took me away from my family and my friends. There wasn't a single thing I could do about it. I had to ride in the back of an ambulance even though I was perfectly fine. I hated it. The people there were rude and didn't help.

Hopefully, you won't have a HORRIBLE experience.Health Question & Answer
