Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

Please, consider what I'm about to say, it may be hard to hear, but as someone with clinical depression, and generalized anxiety disorder, these are realities I had to come to.

Your depression medication has one purpose. To stabilize your moods. That's it. It's not going to make you feel 100% better. So when it 'took the depression away' it did exactly what it was supposed to.

It is also impossible to tell you what medication is best. My father has clinical depression and has been battling it for 10 years, and has been on multiple medications. Both my father and I take different medications.
Only your doctor can help you on that one.

Side effects are a fact of life in the prescription drugs world. It's your choice how you deal with it. If you don't want to gain weight, monitor what you put in your system. If you think you may experience cravings, buy some fruit, or some healthy snacks. Most cravings go away after about 10-20 minutes. I know whenever I had a really bad craving I just drank water, and it usually went away.

As far as your anger goes, that maybe your own issues. I know it's a scary thing, but therapy/counseling was the smartest decision I ever made, and after 10 sessions (10 hours over a 3 month period), I finally felt like myself again, and I dealt with a lot of my issues. I would look into it and give it a shot.

I wish you luck, but please remember that this isn't something that is going to get better overnight and it takes effort. But it is so worth it. Don't give up.

It's impossible to say b/c each medicine has different effects on different people. Lamictal is for bipolar disorder. Is that what you have or just strictly depression.? I'm happy on Zoloft but I know that my friends didn't like it. Just like I didn't like Celexa but another friend loves it. I'd suggest trying some more meds. It usually takes several tries before you find one that works well with you.Health Question & Answer

I take abilify and that dosent make you gain weight. but it is for bipolar. have you been diagnosed or did your psysician give you the limictal.? you need to be diagnosed by a professional doctor a physiciatrist. (sp) Then he will be able to tell you of all the medications and their side effects.Health Question & Answer

The one that works for you. Unfortuanly one person will have problems on a pill and another wont.

That said I am on Lexapro which is generally considered to be extremely effective with few side effects.
