You could be in a mania phase. Though people in an acute mania phase can stay up for DAYS before passing out. Then again they are sometimes likely to take in loads of caffiene and other substances to help them stay up if they are available. Other than that you just may not want to sleep. If it wasn't for the 5 AM alarm I'd stay up a lot later, and I don't always want to go to bed when I "have to" either. There is a chance of depression though. Insomnia is a symptom of that as well. Though that is usually more not being able to sleep when you are trying to.Health Question & Answer

Hard to say what the reason could be, specially since I don't know much about you, can you describe the feeling you get when you try to sleep, is it like fear or panic, or just an annoyance at doing something you don't want to.? I suggest you speak with a doctor if this continues.Health Question & Answer

I'm glad you're getting help! If you've just started therapy (counseling, medication, etc), remember that it takes a while for the effect to be seen.

Maybe try getting a night-shift job- that way it's not a big deal that you're awake all night.

Are you having disturbing dreams.? This may be a coping technique your mind has developed to avoid that.
