Do anti anxiety medications cause brain damage?!

Question: Do anti anxiety medications cause brain damage.?
I take Lorazepam twice daily at .5 mg and sometimes my head feels funny and it feels twitchy and I just wonder if these types of medicines can cause brain damage or notHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
They cannot and will not cause brain damage. Any medication though has side effects. They mainfest themselves in different ways in different people.
As 2 examples. Prozac, which I am on, causes most people not to have an orgasm. That is expected.
Prozac, also makes me very cold for the first few weeks when I begin it. After about 2-3 weeks that side effect goes away.
How long have you been on the lorazapam.? I would wait approx. 1 month before doing anything, unless you cannot stand the side effects. Then I would contact your doctor immediatlyHealth Question & Answer

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to....

This sounds very much like some of the typical side effects of medicines similar to Lorazepam.....and you can probably look on the bottle or look up Lorazepam online and confirm that, HOWEVER.....please call the doctor who ordered the med for you and discuss the symptoms and concerns you are having with them. They may want to alter your dose, change your med, or perhaps they will at least be able to make you feel less worried about the symptoms. Best wishes!Health Question & Answer
