Answers:
I have bipolar.

What you described does not sound like bipolar at all unless you left a lot out.

You have not described anything that sounds like mania.

Bipolar does not mean just mood swings. You can have mood swings with any mood disorder including unipolar depression. Bipolar means having a depressed "pole" and a manic "pole". also switching back in the forth with in a day or days is very abnormal for bipolar. Episodes usually last weeks or months not days, or many within a day.

Bipolar mania is much much more then just energetic and joyful. It is racing thoughts, impulsive/reckeless behaviour/spending....and those are a result of very distorted perseptions. When I know my mania is bad is when Im doing something and think maybe 20-30 and then look at a clock to find hours have past.

You may be suffereng from some level of depression.....your family saying you have 2 personalitys could be 1 your normal self and 2 your depressed self. Bipolar is many, normal, depressed, hypomanic, euphoric mania, dysphoric mania, mixed. See a Dr. also, try to see a psychiatrist, not just your GP......GPs sometimes are too quick to prescribe antidepressants. also see a therapist......may be easy enough to deal with with therapy and not meds.Health Question & Answer

go to primary care physician to rule out physical problems. Thyroid, etc. Have them refer you to psychiatrist for psychological exam, and help for cutting. This is serious depression. I have had bipolar for years, it is a chemical imbalance and a real illness. But do rush to a diagnosis. Start small and then continue investigating with doctors. If suicidal, call helpline please.Health Question & Answer

i could be many types of mental illness
and i would not rush to go see a psychiatrist, they'll just rush you into taking medicines that don't necessary help, sometimes make you feel worse
do what is good for you, sleep, healthy food, a funny movie, good music, exercise, etc.

I'm guessing that your only problem is that you are a typical teenager in the "new millenium". You sound like just about every teenage girl I've talked to in the past eight years.Health Question & Answer

It sounds more like typical depression from the symptoms you mentioned here. In bipolar disorder, your lows are low and your highs are really high. A bipolar person in a manic (up) phase might go for 5-6 days without sleeping, or might take on a huge. but not really important project (like building a giant tower out of toothpicks) and not eat or stop working on it for days and days......neglecting other, more important responsibilities. They talk and move rapidly, and have trouble sitting still. Their behavior can be very impulsive....for example buying expensive jewlery with the rent money.....without thinking of the consequences. If this sounds more like you, then bipolar might be your diagnosis.

If you tend to go from deeply depressed to a more normal level of optimism and energy, then you probably have a more traditional type of depression. This can also be difficult to deal with....it's serious too! So, either way, please talk to your doctor (or go to a community clinic) and describe your symptoms (all of them, even if they seem unrelated to this) and let them make the official diagnosis and get you some help and support. With meds or therapy or both you can be feeling better.Health Question & Answer

You have to be careful because a lot of different mental disorders can be confused with eachother. Sure it sounds a bit bipolar, but I think it sounds more like chronic depression. I have dealt with all those feelings you described. They can be caused by trauma in the past, or it could be a hormonal imbalance in the brain. The best thing to do is to get help as soon as possible. I know that sounds typical, but seeing a therapist or even talking to someone you trust really helps. When you feel really tired like you don't want to do anything, that's when you need to force yourself to get up and around. Exercise improves mood, so even if it's just a walk around it can make a huge difference. Write down your feelings and when you feel really negative about yourself, try to list your good qualities. I hope that helps. Just avoid hurting yourself as much you can because you'll regret it later. Good luck. Don't give up.Health Question & Answer

Bipolar is something that is loosely diagnosed meaning; psychiatrists basically will tell you anything to sell you pills. How old are you.? That plays a giant factor on your body because hormones if your a teenager or even in your 20's are flowing like crazy. Sometimes it can just be a hormone imbalance aswell that just has abnormal malfunctions.
