Question: My friend has Bipolar & doesnt take her meds.......?
HELP !
A new friend of mine came over for drinks on Saturday night & lost the plot, crying one minutes, dancing the next. I know she doesnt take her med's BUT geez, she needs help that I cant give her.
We talk alot over a wine (she almost drinks it all) but never sober, I dont know where to start. She is also in a very unstable relastionship, Im not quite sure if its her or him at this stage because I have never met him.
Any suggestions....?

Many Bipolar people are non compliant with their meds. When she's in the manic part of her illness, she stops the meds, because she doesn't feel she needs them. A lot of Bipolars want to keep the manic part going, because they've "Learned," that it feels good. When you're manic, you feel that anything doable.
Your best bet is to love your friend, just the way they are.

You said it all. She needs help that you can't give her. She doesn't take her meds and drinks alcohol recklessly which makes her behave even more erratically. My advice: find a new friend.Health Question & Answer
