Question: I want to lose some weight and get in shape, but here's the thing that's bothering me....?
Every time I look in the mirror, I see fat. And I know I need to lose some flab, I'm willing to do that, but after reading anorexia stories I'm afraid I'll become anorexic, too. A few simple changes turned into a huge disorder for those unfortunate people... What if that will happen to me.? I read those stories so I'd know what not to do, but now I'm worried that I will start doing them, like eating less and exercising too much. I have started eating a little bit less, and i think I'm thinking too negatively about myself. What can I do to stop myself from going too far.?


I'm 13 years old, around five feet tall and I weigh about 115 pounds. I'm not too worried about my weight, I think that is a healthy weight for someone my age and height, but I am way too out of shape and I have a a little more fat on my body than I'd like.Health Question & Answer

I recently lost 35 pounds and you are not overweight. Women with anorexia and bullemia suffer a form of mental illness as they have body morphic disorder, where no matter how thin they get they only see themselves as grossly overweight. It sounds to me like you are going through what all we women go through and that is low self esteem. Oh, dear! You are not fat! At all. You're 13. You don't need to diet that young. It's unhealthy. If you really want to get into better shape, avoid overly sugary snacks. You can still have them, just don't over do it.

If you want to get into shape, just run and bike and such. Simple things you can do when you get out of school. Or try playing a sport.

But, like I said, at 13, weight should be the furthest thing from your mind. Three years ago when I was 13, I was only worried about when the new episodes of Power Rangers and Digimon were coming on!Health Question & Answer

Take it step by step, don't go too far because your still growing! Maybe do a regular cycle of exercises :) Get someone to exercise with you! Take care of each other, and remind yourselves that you are beautiful people. It's fine to worry about how you look, but don't get too caught up in it. Appearances aren't the only things that make up the person. Just cut down on your calories a bit, and you'll be fine.
