My friend tried to commit suicide....?!

Question: My friend tried to commit suicide.....?
my friend is 13, like me
anyway she told me about it.....
and so she tried to choke herself with a belt.
and then just as she was about to fall over she decided (neither of us can figure it out) that she didn't want to die. so she quickly took the belt away from her neck and steadied herself. she kept taking deep breaths and thinking "i dont wanna die" but for a few minutes there was this (very unpleasent!!!) tingleing all over her body. what was this.? could that be like just as she was losing consiousness.? was that the beginning of dieing.?

she talked to me about it that's how i know this..... sorry if i creeped anyone out that was definetly not the intention.
thanks in advance. Health Question & Answer

Im so sorry about your friend, but Im really happy she didnt go through with it.

I think the tingleing was from lack of oxygen, since the supply was getting caught off due to the belt wrapped around her neck. Once she took the belt off her heart started pumping it the oxygen she was breathing back in, and her body wasnt getting any when she was chocking herself. Does that make sense or did I confuse you.?

Please make sure your friend gets help. Have you told anyone else about this.? Do her parents know.? Its critical to be there for your friend and convince her to get help, she can seriously hurt herself.Health Question & Answer

Basically your friend was having the tingling because of the lack of oxygen. You need to talk to her parents, a school counselor or some responsible adult so that she can get some help. If she has attempted to kill herself once most likely she will try to do it again unless she gets some professional help. Please don't keep this a secret from people who can get her help because if she can get the help she needs she will feel a lot better. I know how tough it is; I'm going through recovering from my own psychological problems, and it's very hard. Health Question & Answer

That very serious. What she is doing is incredibly dangerous and yes it can lead to death. What happened was she cut off part of the blood supply to the brain which would have led to unconsciousness and if the pressure was maintained, brain death would follow shortly (within minutes). You have to tell someone in case she tries to do it again.Health Question & Answer

Hi, I think your asking the wrong question. The question should be, how can I help her.? There are many americans surprisingly who have and who suffers from depression. I attempted to commit suicide myself in my early teens (now am 25). That point in both of your lives are very confusing, you have your parents nagging you, school, peers of friends, and media telling you how you should act, look, dress, and even who you should date. The thing you have to understand is with time this to will pass. Not matter what tell your friend to hold in there. They will be like many people who going look back and say, "what was I doing.?"

I am thankful that your friend decided not to follow through with the suicide. Most importantly, have your friend speak to a parent, if the parent is the problem, speak to a relative, teacher, or coach about the issues. Your friend does not have to say what they try to do but explained how much its affecting their thoughts.

*****Remember there is always someone they can talk and care. Take care of yourself and your friend. Be safe..*****

hey kiddo, hang in there, things will get better. the preteen and teen years suck, and in junior high, life was hell for me. you just have to realize something: all the petty little things you are stressing over so much won't matter as an adult. When you are an adult, nobody cares what you looked like, what you wore, what group you hung out with or who your friends were in junior high. It will pass and you will be much happier. your hormones are going nuts at this age and it can have a huge affect on your emotions.

But, anyway, to answer your question, the tingling was your body going numb, lack of blood flow. Like when you sit on your foot for a long time and it goes numb. Many people realize at the last minute that they don't really want to die. Part of it is your body refusing to give up so easily...yes, your body is programmed to LIVE, and it will fight with everything it has. The other part is that sometimes it takes something drastic for us to realize that our lives aren't really as bad as we think their are when we are feeling our worst.

The easiest way for me to pick myself up and move on is to consider what is bothering me so much. Then think about how important it really is. Will it matter next week.? Next year.? Five years from now.? Most of the stuff we worry about as teens really isn't going to be life altering. Health Question & Answer
