Is drinking to excess a form of self abuse ?!

Question: Is drinking to excess a form of self abuse .?
It is beyond me why people drink to excess and harm their bodies and brains and get themselves into potentially dangerous and harmful situations. Is this a form of self abuse.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Nobody starts abusing any substance because they want to become dependant on it. Usually you don't realise you are dependant on it, you say things to keep the peace like you are going to stop or get help but whatever the substance is it controls you. I was an alcoholic for many years, I didn't do it to try and cause myself problems I did it because I didn't control the alcohol it controlled me. If I got into a potentially dangerous situation the first thing I thought of was having more alcohol. I didn't want to abuse myself I didn't see it as being that I saw it as a way of getting out of those situations.
Alcoholism is a cruel disease because it affects far more than the person who has it but it is a disease, there is no cure I've not had a drink for nearly 4 years but I know I couldn't have one. I can't control the alcohol it controls me!Health Question & Answer
