Either

Excessive stress or a medical condition. Eg. A sleep disorder.

For this you must take medication. I will be either acute (short-term) which will resolve if underlying psychological issues resolve. Or chronic if it this lack of sleep has become a physiological fixture.

All chronic medical diseases, by necessity require pharmaceutical intervention.

If activan or lunestra, sonata or ambien do not help you sleep in the short-term (1-7) days and futher after teking for seven days to 1 month your psychological distress and physiological distress, eg. lack of sleep, does not subside (i.e. within 1 month from this date of writting) you must be evaluated or reevaluated for 'poor' mental health functioning.

This is not a crime or a problem you necessarily have brought on yourself.

Either way,

1. the solution for acute stress (severe) can be resolved without chronic medication therapy/treatement, if your sleep symptoms resolve with the removal of the stressor/s (causes of your distress).

2. if your stressors cannot be removed, or are a natural feature of any environment you have to find yourself in...it is most likely that you have developed a medical condition. I say developed, meaning it may not have existed in this severity previously, but a threshold is crossed in all chronic conditions which unfortunately cannot be reversed by any known proven medical intervention, known to man, at this time.

The obvious exception are the not yet proven therapeutic options for the dying, such as 'stem cell' and other still controversial therapies whose efficacy has yet to be medically established.

many controversial therapies, because not FDA approved, cannot be guaranteed to work. Simply put.

Good luck.

Hope I spoke even a little to your question.

PS. As others have suggested, you may try over the counter sleep aids first if you wish and methods to try and relax or calm yourself, as some one did say.

Sinse you have recognised that you do have an active or overactive (thought process) even while lying down for up to 2 hours.

Medically persons unable to sleep within 20-30 minutes after lying down:

a. Either are not really sleepy
b. Have a disturbed sleep cycle; as a result eg. of
1. achange in work schedule.
2. a relationship (emotional) change
3. a change aof living environment. (eg. a change in the amount of sunlight you are currently receiveng as previously). This affects the melationin levels in the body.
4. a change is circadian rhythems, i.e. your normal body clock, which tends to get you up between a certain time in the morning and makes you sleepy at a certain at night (unless interupted).

In any case watch your patterns:remove as much light from your room as possible, try to get to bed at a fairly regular time at night, be comfortable, don't eat or exercise or do streneous activity shortly before bed with any regularity, try not to eat too little or too much at night time, and not right before bed, and lastly try to relax your body, listen to relaxing music or use breathing or meditation exercises to calm, your brain. Breathing exercises send additional oxygen to your brain to calm it down. relaxing music does calm your anxious , worried or feraful emotions.

Yeah the exact same thing will happen to me each time I "choose" to think about stuff during night, topics that I really need "closure" on.

I'm a big thinker too, btw.

Listen you need to get used to forcing yourself to achieve a quick feeling of "calmed down" and a clear mind within 20 seconds of transition time. It's hard because you tingle inside and you feel like you need to keep thinking. It takes practice, but not a lot, you get used to achieving the feeling of having a clear mind.

When you get that feeling, keep it that way (it's easy if you decide you "want it") and suddenly you WILL be surprised how you suddenly feel so calm and you start yawning and you get super cozy and you feel like sleeping...THAT'S when it happens.

Seriously! try it!
And let me know how it works for you!
Good luck!Health Question & Answer

You might try some over the counter sleep aids. They're safe for short term use and then maybe you can get yourself into a better sleep pattern. Keep your room really dark and cool. Watch something boring on tv. Well, that should be easy to do. Maybe read a boring book. Don't exercise close to bedtime. You'll just be energized. Try to think of boring or repetitive things. Think of something as boring as rearranging the furniture in your mind. Do it over and over till you fall asleep. Don't let yourself think about the problems you've had during the day. Or what you have to deal with tomorrow. Health Question & Answer

try taking a warm/hot bath about an hour before you want to go to bed.

If that doesn't work then try to go to your Department of Children and Families and try to get on Medicaid so you can get Ambien (which I take) to help you sleep.

Again try the bath thing first and listen to relaxing music while in there if possible.. I mean sounds of the ocean or rain.. No vocals at all.. just pure relaxation.

Good luck
