High school is a difficult time for everyone, although you would never guess it when you are going through it! The description you gave of yourself tells me that you are not fat. As you already have eating disorders in your family, you understand the struggle and pain. I suggest that you speak with your doctor about your weight and how you feel about it.

Are you interested in any sports.? Getting exercise doesn't mean you have to run 10 miles every morning. There are plenty of teams you can join at school that will give you plenty of exercise. You can also organize some things with your friends. For example, my daughter is in high school and she plays hockey. She has organized a stair climbing routine in our city with a bunch of her friends/teammates.

The confidence will come when you start feeling better about yourself. There are millions of teenage girls out there with no self confidence. Make sure you pay attention to the wonderful things about you - like if you have beautiful eyes, hair, legs, etc.

Try not to stress too much. High school is tough and the pressures that young women get now from the media is incredible. Stay positive and focus on the good things.

Best of luck to you!

everybody and i mean everybody can find something wrong with themselves. don't focus on just losing the weight, try to be more active (socially, emotionally, physically) meaning go out and enjoy life. take up an extra curricular activity. if you are self-conscious, it doesn't hurt to speak to a counselor at school. they'll help you work through your insecurities because everybody has them, it's a question of whether or not will they interfere w/our lives.? just know, that eating disorders are extremely harmful and dangerous and very hard to quit. never go down that road and i hope your sisters are getting treatment for their disorders. There is a dvd, Walk Away the Pounds... it really works, and you can exercise in the comfort of your own home. My mom lost 50 pounds doing the exercise DVD and changing her diet. Just cut back on fatty foods and exercise... and don't have an intake of sugar if you can resist. I am 7.5 months pregnant and can't wait to start the exercise program after I give birth. As far as self confidence... it comes from yourself. Just remember that what other people think and say only reflects on them and not you. Health Question & Answer
