People with BPD commonly have other Axis I disorders along with it. They have an unstable self image and sense of self. Some have times when they seem out of touch with reality sometimes experiencing delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, and dissociative symptoms. They also have a hard time w/interpersonal relationships. Manipulative (and real) suicide attempts and self mutilization are common with this disorder. Many times it is traced back to events in childhood. Dialectical Behavioral therapy by Marsha Linehan has become popular in treating this disorder in the last several years.
I made a friend (in psychology class, of all places) that was affected by this disorder. She came to the point that she couldn't stay at her family home but didn't know why. She was undergoing psychotherapy and was diagnosed after I came to know her. I allowed her to live with me for four months during this time and drove her for psychtherapy often. As memories came back, she remembered being raped by her father and brother as a young child. During this time, she divorced and developed a gay lifestyle all at the time memories were coming back. It was quite a trip! It's a very hard disease to do anything with. At one time, she was on so much medication, she didn't know if she were coming or going!Health Question & Answer

it's in the process of being redefined,i'd advise ignoring the label and looking at dyslimbia on google as we are now at the juncture of mapping certain parts of the brain using PET SCANS (no not the budgie) but look em up.i wish you well, and don't let anyone tell you who you are!.

I find fact sheets to be a bit stark and meaningless. Every individual is going to have different symptoms and they will appear in different ways as everyone is different enviroments.
But yeah MIND and rethink have factsheets which can help.Health Question & Answer
