Question: I feel my life is not going anywhere, i need some suggestions on how i can feel useful and confident..... help.?
ok im 19, study fashion at uni, all seems well.?...no. lately i have been questioning my life. I have a few close friends, but sometimes they seem to distance themselves from me. I only go to uni 3 days a week and i cant seem to find a job so for 4 days a week im just sitting in my rented room in a house alone. This gives me alot of time to think, which is not good because im constantly thinking im worthless and need to get away to something that suits me and i can be happy in. I have never had a serious relationship if a relationship at all. Im not a confident person so if a guy asks me to go for a drink i decline because... well i dont know why, i think i am to self concious and think he will think im just a horrible, boring, shy person. I dont know what to do to stop feeling like this. I also feel my education will not lead to anything because im not confident enough to follow it through. I'm living off my student loan, which just about pays my rent. Can you please give me some suggestions. Thanks for listening.Health Question & Answer

If you want to feel more useful, how about finding an organization that offers a shelter to teens and women who are living at risk and volunteer do go over and help them make clothing, find things to wear for job interviews, do fashion makeovers for them so they are ready for the working world and so THEY feel better about themselves.? Find a way to set up a clothing drive and ask wealthy neighborhoods to donate clothing for women and teens and then pass them out with fashion tips to those who need them There is always a tragedy somewhere- a house fire that ruins a families clothing, an eviction, a flood, an abuse situation where the woman had to flee leaving her belongings behind to stay alive- people need "things" like clothing and if you can help THEm look their best then you are helping them FEEL their best and SURPRISE! you will feel useful, creative and fulfilled. You could start looking for a part time job where you will work in the future, this way You will focus in what real job needs, and you will learn more at school... if they pay you a few dollars, it is ok because you are investing in the future.

You need to make a decision. You need to choose. You can be happy or miserable. It is really as simple as that. Choose to be happy then set some goals. There's lots you can do besides sit in a room by yourself. A great way to spend your time is volunteering. A local hospital, a mentoring program......whatever. If that's not your thing then find a park and go do some exercise. Find a library and do some reading. Offer babysitting services (for $$). Go out with whoever asks you because you shouldn't worry about what they think of you - concentrate on what you think of them. I think you have deep seated, long term issues of low self worth going back to childhood. My guess is you did not have a great childhood. I think you should get some therapy. In the meantime, try to do something to get out. Go for a walk. Find a volunteer job. Maybe at a school helping kids with their work. I did that for awhile. I liked it. Or at a non-profit organization that needs clerical help. Like typing or data entry. If you don't have the confidence right now to mix with peers, at least do something. Don't sit around all day by yourself. It's just a set up for self-deprecating thoughts. But do try to get some counseling. Start with your school. Their health center may have counseling available.
