No one really goes crazy and no one is hopeless. The thing is, we all change a bit through our life experiences. But they can definitely become more like themselves as time goes on. Lots of people suffer from disorders at some point in their life and it's not a lifelong disgrace any more.Health Question & Answer

Of course a person can experience a period of time where they feel they are going to loose it and never come back but thats when it's important to recognize that there is something wrong and tell their doctor so they can take medication to help the person function and think rationally. Self help books are great for Depression and anxiety, or other mental illnesses. I read once a person that thinks he/she is going crazy ISN"T because once you have gone crazy you are not aware of it. I have had episodes of Depression that I felt like was in a ditch with no way out but it always passes. You have to tell yourself positive things repeatedly and medication made it so much easier to cope and be able to realize how irrational a person can become.
Go online and google People with mental illness and talk to them ask them what is there experience, join a support group either in you nieghborhood or online. I just joined a support group and was the only one that showed up but I will go again next week and every time after that if I have to, to help myself. What you can't do is give up. Helping yourself brings you back. Trust me.

Skyliner,

You can definitely return to your former self (albeit wiser and more grown up) but it's up to you to do it. No one can do it for you.
How did the old you think, behave, believe, enjoy.? These are the things that made that person.
If the bad relationships are affecting you it's up to you to get rid of them / change them.
I expect a dash of selfishness might also help.

Very best of luck

Living with stress short term is manageable, but very damaging long term. With the right support it is possible to over come the trauma and rebuild yourself to your former Glory. Isolation is very damaging too, and a major contributing factor low mood, depression and low self confidence. None of us can change our past but we can leave it there in our past and learn from it and move forward. I think you are starting to go forward. That's a really good question. I have an chronic anxiety and one of my phobias is going crazy. I think it depends on the person. Like, some people lose a child or see a loved one die and they're never the same no matter what, and others just get through it. I can think of some things personally that would send me to a mental institution permanantly if I experienced it.Health Question & Answer

It depends on the type of person. Some would shake it off and try to improve their life, some would wallow until they die.Health Question & Answer
