I feel like I can't relax. I'm going crazy! What should I do? :(?!

Question: I feel like I can't relax. I'm going crazy! What should I do.? :(.?
I started a new job and everything was fine for the first week or two. I've been there for a month now and I'm not sure how to handle what I'm experiencing.

I work as as an administrative assistant at a front desk. I have people whiz by, back and forth to use the restroom or to go into another part of the office. I also have coworkers that stop by and either chit chat or have a work request for me. I feel uncomfortable and can't seem to relax. During the day I worry that I can't relax and at the end of the day I feel drained. It's not that my job duties are hard, but in fact, just the opposite. I have very few duties and management likes it this way because phones are the top priority. My boss allows me to go online, but I feel guilty doing this, especially if the VP or President walk by.

I'm not really a "people person", because I'm a bit more reserved, but I do enjoy helping others out. Maybe that is why I feel a bit uncomfortable.

I try to tell myself this isn't my life long career and it's just temporary, but it's not working.

Any tips.?

Thanks!Health Question & Answer

Yes...I know what you mean. You have too much time on your hands and are becoming anxious by sitting and doing nothing--other than answering the phone and surfing the internet.

You're probably the kind of person that needs to stay busy and direct your energy towards something productive instead of it wasting away at a sedentary job. But you said it's only temporary...so hang in there and think good thoughts when you're bored. I know you feel guilty for surfing the internet at work, but if they said it's okay...then do it, guiltless. Just smile and answer questions as needed and mind your own business...and don't worry. This is nothing to worry about, of all things to worry about ! I know...I have a similar job !

Tip: Don't drink a lot of caffeine or eat too much chocolate...it'll make you more anxious.Health Question & Answer

You need to identify what is the source of your stress. You have already started that process by reflecting upon your jobs responsibilities and what takes place during the working day. Once you have broken this down further, you then need to develop coping strategies for each source of stress. It might sound like a huge task but it is not. I can't relax either. i trade stocks in this trash market. i can hardly even get half a peaceful nights sleep.
If you know it's only temporary.? Then just go with the flow. you won't be there forever, or will you.?Health Question & Answer

I would say this is all very normal, especially if you aren't a "people person" to begin with. I would suggest doing some physical activities outside of your work. Maybe do something to pamper yourself and be kind to yourself. Love yourself and compliment yourself. I'm not saying to do all this from a point of ego or being "better than" others, but a healthy love for yourself and who you are would help a great deal.

Praying also works for me, always. Something like "Thank You for blessing me with all You will in regards to all the thoughts, words, feelings and emotions that I have in me or that are about me... please, as You will and at Your will...from this moment forth."

Saying to yourself in your head over and over throughout the day would help keep you calm as well... something like these:
"I love myself." (or "you love yourself".. sometimes saying "you" makes the words "stick" more in your consciousness.)
"As of right now and forever I am completely filled with inner peace."

I hope something here helps!

God bless you and your reality and your paths! =)Health Question & Answer

I am a lot like you and used to work as an administrative assistant too. I think you are feeling that you have to respond to everyone there and chit chat every time somene wants to. Even after a month, it's still a new place for you. Eventually, you will get to know the people better and you won't feel so much stress as you become one of them. In the meantime, it might help if you created some projects for yourself that would help the business or just take your mind off all the activity around you. If your boss gave you permission to go online, then you can go online without guilt. If I were you, I would want to have more to do that wasn't just frivolous. Maybe if you took a class and you could do some reading and homework while at work, you wouldn't feel so distressed. Give it time and things will get easier.Health Question & Answer
